Constant Pop up- Error loading C:\Windows\System32\byXPIbxY.dll

Hi,
I'm having problems with this pop-up. Every time I start my computer this error pops up: "Error loading C:\Windows\System32\byXPIbxY.dll The specified module could not be found." I have run many spyware removal programs and virus scans and have found nothing. After running the Panda Activescan it showed that i have some virus's but they cannot be removed by that tool and my other virus scanner(Avast!) won't find it. Any help you could provide would be great, thanks.

Re: Constant Pop up- Error loading C:\Windows\System32\byXPIbxY.dll

Hello and welcome to TSF.

I see that you are using BitTorrent, which is a p2p file sharing program. I would like to warn you that the nature of P2P filesharing is so that even if one is using a "clean" program, many of the files downloaded from non-documented sources have the potential of being infected. So, regardless of whether one is using a "clean" program, one may still be prone to infection by malware because more than half of all files available for download from peer-to-peer networks have been deliberately infected with some form of malware. Also by default, most P2P file sharing programs are configured to automatically launch at startup. They are also configured to allow other P2P users on the same network open access to a shared directory on your computer. The reason for this is simple, file sharing relies on its members giving and gaining unfettered access to computers across the P2P network. However, this practice can make you vulnerable to data and identity theft.
I recommend very strongly that you remove it from your system via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

===================================

Please disable Spyware Doctor, as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Spyware Doctor:
  • Click the Spyware Doctor icon in the System Tray.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Startup Settings under Pick a Category.
  • Uncheck Run at Windows startup.
  • Click Apply and Exit Spyware Doctor
Once your log is clean you can re-enable Spyware Doctor.

Please disable Windows Defender too. To disable Windows Defender:
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools
  • Click General Settings
  • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
  • Uncheck Use Real Time Protection (recommended)
  • After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
  • Close Windows Defender
Once your log is clean you can re-enable Windows Defender Real Time Protection.

===================================

Please right click on HijackThis and click Run as administrator

Click on "do a system scan only"

Re: Constant Pop up- Error loading C:\Windows\System32\byXPIbxY.dll

Hi,

Please download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Right click on ComboFix.exe and run as administrator & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Re: Constant Pop up- Error loading C:\Windows\System32\byXPIbxY.dll

That shouldn't be a problem. Did you right click combofix.exe and choose "run as Administrator"?

Re: Constant Pop up- Error loading C:\Windows\System32\byXPIbxY.dll

Hi,

If you've removed BitTorrent, please remove its associated folders too:

C:\Users\Dan\AppData\Roaming\BitTorrent
C:\Program Files\BitTorrent

Delete the following file:
C:\Windows\System32\trzEE7F.tmp

==============================

Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.nl/scanforvirus-en/kavwebscan.html

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log and an update on how things are now.

**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Re: Constant Pop up- Error loading C:\Windows\System32\byXPIbxY.dll

Hi,

Quote:
things are good with my computer, the pop-up does not show up on start up anymore.
Good to hear that.

=========================================

I can still see a p2p file sharing program, i.e. BitTorrent DNA, running. With reference to my post #2, I would strongly recommend that you remove BitTorrent DNA as well.

========================================

The following are reported by Kaspersky as infected. Perhaps downloaded via BitTorrent? Please delete them.

C:\Users\Dan\Documents\Downloads\DVDSanta v4.5 full\DVDSanta.v4.5.retail-FOSI\fo-dvs45.exe
C:\Users\Dan\Documents\Downloads\DVDSanta v4.5 full.rar

Also delete the DSS from your desktop.

The other items will be addressed when you uninstall Combofix. Your log is clean and you're good to go.
  • Click Start then Run
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Notice the space between the x and the /u

    This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points to prevent reinfection from old restore points.
========================================

A colleague of ours has excellent information and tips on the prevention of malware here for your future reference.

Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Happy Surfing!
