Trojan detected. Please help

Hi,

I got a Trojan(s) recently when I was stupid enough to open what seemed like a key generator. My anti-virus program (Sophos) picked up some of it, but I don't think it got all of it. Since then I have downloaded AVG and run scans using that, Kaspersky, and Malewarebytes' Anti-Malware. Anti-Malware picked up some more, but there are still things affecting my computer. Here they are as follows:

2 days ago my bookmarks got deleted
Computer would crash occasionally
When starting up, laptop would crash when the desktop loaded. Would require 2-3 restarts before it would load successfully.
Computer speed may have slowed down.

My HiJackThis log is posted below. I would really appreciate it if I could get some help off this because I have been having so many problems. Thanks.

Re: Trojan detected. Please help

I had to restart my computer 20+ times before I got a proper start-up today. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Trojan detected. Please help

I just did a Malwarebytes' scan and got a warning from both Sophos and AVG saying that the files

C:/System Volume Information/_restore{F845EDB-f751-4BE4-A620-64F2CA1BfB5F}/RP988/A0523950.exe and
C:/System Volume Information/_restore{F845EDB-f751-4BE4-A620-64F2CA1BfB5F}/RP988/A0523951.dll

files were infected. These did not come up in scans before. What should I do to fix them? AVG said that it could not remove these files.

Having two virus protection programs installed will cause problems, such as you are experiencing at this time, please remove one of them, that is either Sophos or AVG.

These are nothing to worry about, System Volume Information is your system restore/cache folder and those entries cannot harm you from there, except if you do a system restore, if your still having problems, follow instructions below.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
  5. Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simply
  1. Click the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
  2. copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:
    C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt
  3. Click Upload.
What DSS will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

This could cause some of the problems, if you have a lot of music/video files on your PC, you should move them to USB Stick, CD-R/DVD-R or external hard drive.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Re: Trojan detected. Please help

Hi

I'm away from my infected computer at the moment, but just to clarify, would you like both logs to be pasted as text or uploaded as attachments? Thanks.

Re: Trojan detected. Please help

Hi,

I ran ComboFix, but couldn't completely disable Sophos Anti-virus. I ended the process from the Windows Task Manager but I'm not sure if it was completely disabled. Also, at the restart I had Sophos and Spybot automatically run in the task manager. Anyways, here it is:

Re: Trojan detected. Please help

Hello again

Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.Do not run just yet, we will shortly

=======

S& D Spybot's Tea Timer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

========

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:
File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Smab.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Smab0.dll
Folder::
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045}]

Save this as CFscript

Refering to the picture above, drag CFscript into ComboFix.exe

Follow the prompts, and post the resulting log, C:\ComboFix.txt

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

Warning:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
  • Click Run at the Security prompt.
  • The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
  • Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.
  • Click the Save Report As... button.
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply.
**Note**

Animated Tutorial Here

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs.
  • Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

=========

Re: Trojan detected. Please help

Hello again

Please run Deckard's System Scanner again, this time using these instructions:

Click the Windows 'Start' button > Select 'Run' - then copy/paste this into the run box & click OK

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft

* Read the disclaimer and click okay.
* Click on the Scan button.
*When finished, click the Fix button.
* Re-scan and save a logfile. By default, it will save as daft.txt.

Post the contents of that file with your next post

===========

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (If they still exist, make sure you do not miss any)

TrendProtect rates the current page and pages listed in Google, MSN, and Yahoo search results. You can use the rating to decide if you want to visit or avoid a given Web page. To rate Web pages, TrendProtect refers to an extensive database that covers the following information for billions of Web pages:

* Page reputation

WOT Free helps you avoid disingenuous Internet content by allowing you to learn from others' experiences. Reputations can also be added to web search results, Gmail, Wikipedia, and other selected sites.

WOT reputations are computed mainly from user testimonies. Sharing your knowledge with others is just a click away, without ever having to leave the site.
