100 percent cpu usage

Hey I went through the five steps and some things didn't work. The online scan kept giving me errors and spyware blaster froze. I ran mcafee, spybot and ad-aware but none of them worked. basically my problem is my cpu runs at 100 percent no matter what I'm doing making everything freeze. Also my system restore is messed up and automatic updates won't turn on if that helps at all. I get weird browser redirects but only in explorer and not Firefox. Ok here is my log thanks a lot.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

Please do this:

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
  5. Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simply
  1. Click the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
  2. copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:
    C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt
  3. Click Upload.

What DSS will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download ComboFix from Here:

* IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop

We will first use ComboFix to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode if needed. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
  • Next, download the Microsoft file from this link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

  • Save the file as it's originally named, next to ComboFix.exe.
  • Now close all open windows and programs, including all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix . See this link for help if needed.

  • Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.

  • Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.

ComboFix will now automatically install the Windows Recovery Console onto your computer, which will show up as a new option when booting up your computer. Do not select the Windows Recovery Console option when you start your computer unless requested to by a helper.

As part of installing the Recovery Console, ComboFix will begin to run. Follow the prompts to install the Recovery Console. Your desktop may disappear. This is normal. It will return.

Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

Please explain.

Did you disable your AntiVirus application before running ComboFix?

Did ComboFix run, reboot the machine, not start up again?

Did you receive any alerts from your AntiVirus while ComboFix was running?

Is there a log at C:\CombFix.txt ?

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

It rebooted the machine and then did not run once it restarted.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

Please disable McAfee, and then doubleclick on ComboFix.exe once again to run it. Follow the prompts.

A log should be produced.

Let me know what exactly happens if this is not the case.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

It stopped running and said that it had already been installed and would terminate.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

It sounds to me like you tried to drop the Recovery Console package onto ComboFix again, instead of double clicking on ComboFix.exe

Is this the case?

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

That's more like it.

P2P - I see you have P2P software ( Ares, BitComet ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

S& D Spybot's Tea Timer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • See this link for a tutorial

Download ResetTeaTimer.bat by right-clicking on the link, and choosing Save As. Save it to your desktop, or somewhere you can find it easily.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Place a check next to the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked

Close HijackThis now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please run this online scan to help look for remnants.

First, Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove Kaspersky online scanner if present prior to downloading the most up-to-date one.

Next, establish an internet connection & perform an online scan using Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan. You may disconnect from the internet once you begin the scan.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How is the machine behaving?

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

I ran the virus scan several times but each time the window would close before it finished.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

That's odd, as I'm usually able to run it on heavily infected test machines with no internet connection, once the scan has begun.

I really like kaspersky's definitions. It's very thorough.

Try a couple of things.

Go to Add or Remove Programs, and uninstall the Kaspersky online scanner, then try again from the same link as above.

Or...use this online scanner instead:

Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic and also let me know how things are now.

Re: 100 percent cpu usage

Using Windows Explorer, or Windows search, locate and delete this folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ADSL Software Ltd

Let me know if that poses any trouble.

I also need a new HijackThis log, and a reply to the question about system behavior.
