Hello mikej3131 and welcome,
The infection is interferring with HijackThis, hence is not showing all entries. This is one of the reasons we require a more comprehensive set of logs to assist in detecting any malware that may be present. As noted in the final step (Step 5) of our sticky topic IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help.... Kindly download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. What DSS will do:
Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
Please include the following in your next reply: main.txt an attached extra.txt |

Re: i have a virus! "spyware found" desktop background, graphics messed up, blue scre
ok i couldnt do step 2 because it wouldnt let me confirm my account in panda.
I ran avast and avg and they didnt find anything this time. But i still dnt have the option to change my desktop, i still cant change my time in the windows task bar (its changed to military when the virus started), my icons and everything else in the start menu are huge, i still get a huge blue screen error every once in a while (this may be a trick screen saver that is set?).... Anyway here is my DSS log... Re: i have a virus! "spyware found" desktop background, graphics messed up, blue scre
Thanks, mikej3131. No worries, we'll clean this up.
![]() This will require more than one round to properly eradicate. Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate. The first thing that needs done is address the issue of the 2 installed anti virus programs. While it may seem to be added protection for you, more than 1 Anti Virus can cause conflicts and confusion between the AV programs as well as system slowdowns and other OS issues. Please choose and run only 1 and uninstall the other via the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. After you've completed the above... Please download ComboFix.exe from here and save it directly to your desktop. Do not run it yet. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have the Windows Recovery Console on your machine before doing any malware removal. The Windows recovery console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. Go to Microsoft's website => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 Select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System ![]() Download the file & save it as it's originally named, next to ComboFix.exe. ![]() Now close all open windows and programs, including all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Re: i have a virus! "spyware found" desktop background, graphics messed up, blue scre
Well here goes the combofix log attached and he hijack this log included in the reply. The option to change my desktop background has finally come back! My clock is still in military time and some text and start menu icons are still pretty large

Re: i have a virus! "spyware found" desktop background, graphics messed up, blue scre
Can you please clarify what you meant by "My clock is still in military time and some text" What text, where, exactly?
We'll fix the military time in a bit. I suspect malware is still on your system that is keeping it in that format. Also, for your desktop icons, right click the Start button >Properties>Customize then adjust Icon size for programs. ---------------------------------------------------------- It's important to run this online scan to search for any remnants. It can take some time, so please be patient and allow it to run it's full course: Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
**Note** To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
Run a new scan with dss.exe -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please include the following in your next reply: Kapsersky results new main.txt Also, don't forget to explain that text you mentioned earlier... Then post the following logs in your next reply... |

The desktop icons are back to normal size. Everything else seems to be normal except for maybe the blue task bars on webpages and desktop. i cant be sure though because i never paid attention. hmmm i dont know. As for the online scan. i scanned my whole comp and it was taking over 6 hours because of a certain folder that contained rar video files. it was stuck on these files. i know these files arent viruses so then i just did all the rest of the folders on my c drive individually. here is the only log which found viruses *KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER 7 REPORT* Saturday, June 28, 2008 Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) Kaspersky Online Scanner 7 version: 7.0.25.0 Program database last update: Saturday, June 28, 2008 20:25:10 Records in database: 895967 *Scan settings* Scan using the following database extended Scan archives yes Scan mail databases yes *Scan area* Folder C:\ *Scan statistics* Files scanned 13462 Threat name 2 Infected objects 9 Suspicious objects 0 Duration of the scan 04:38:56 *File name* *Threat name* *Threats count* C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\22\10453ed6-7b41f05c Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\22\53368ad6-56095206 Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\40\3cda1268-52d8df60 Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\jvmimpro.jar-396c70dc-211de04c.zip Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\jvmimpro.jar-3ad601a5-53431c1b.zip Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\jvmimpro.jar-502064fb-71d57e89.zip Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\jvmimpro.jar-51fad18-59db939b.zip Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.a 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\jvmimpro.jar-5efd1945-54c67ecc.zip Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\jvmimpro.jar-6b13a7e7-349f2b9d.zip Infected: Exploit.Java.Gimsh.b 1 * The scan was stopped by the user.* |

![]() It would have been a simple fix: In the Control Panel (Classic View) select Regional and Language Options
----------------------------------------------------------------- Clear Sun Jave cache Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup) If you do not see the icon, look to your left and click 'Switch to Classic View'.
Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following entries: O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file) O16 - DPF: {4ED9DDF0-7479-4BBE-9335-5A1EDB1D8A21} - Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:
If that doesn't resolve the issue, you'd be better served discussing that with the folks in Mozilla/Firefox Browsers section. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Your logs are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links: The following procedure will clear out the backups and quarantines created by the fix. It will also reset your System Restore by flushing out previous restore points (which contain the infections) and create a new restore point. Click Start > Run and copy/paste, or type the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK: ComboFix /u -------------------------------------------------------------------- To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them: McAfee Site Advisor--free version. The folks there check out websites and based on their findings, rate it as Safe, Unknown, Caution, or Bad. SpywareBlaster 4.0 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.
IESpyAD Zoned Out to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. This severely impairs attempts to infect your system as it basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites. Update, and scan with your onboard Anti Malware and Anti Virus programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released. In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles: PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? Think Prevention HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? by Tony Klein MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER Understanding and Using Firewalls **Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them. ----------------------------------------------------- Follow the list above and the potential for infection will reduce dramatically. **Kindly respond one more time and let me know if we may consider this thread resolved.
