Infected with a nice trojan

Hi there, seem to have picked up a little trojan which is being a pain to get rid off.
Think it has been posted on here before, but not sure if its the same version etc.
Comes up "Warning, your system has been infected with spyware" on a blue background, and if left to idle, bugs start crawling across the screen.
Believe it is called Trojan:W32/Pakes.CSG.

I would really appreciate any help.

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Also after leaving my computer on the desktop for around an hour the blue screen of death appeared, with "STOP: 0x0000000CS (OxE46184D4, 0X0000000FF, 0X00000001, 0X8055448F3).

Also i cant seem to get panda scan to scan my pc, doesnt appear to have a link?

Again any help would be appreciated.

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Hi again, sorry about another post but after checking the 5 things to do before posting i realised i never done many of them, so here are all the logs.

I also attached the extra.txt from the DSS and the Panda Active Scan log, due to the way it was set out making it unreadable.

Hope this gives you more information than my first post.

Thanks again,
Russell

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Hi,

Either Norton didn't uninstall properly, or you are running two antivirus applications, i.e. Norton and AVG, which is a no-no. Please remove one of them.

For Norton, please use the instructions on this page to completely uninstall your Norton Products.

(note: this removes ALL Norton 2004/2005/2006/2007 products from your computer, and also uninstalls Norton Ghost 10.0/9.0/2003)

For older versions of Norton (2000, 2001, 2002), choose this
link.

Also read the next article in case you're having problems with uninstalling Norton if above instructions didn't work, or
noticed problems after uninstalling Norton:
http://basconotw.mvps.org/SymRem.htm

=============================

We will continue with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Please notice that I edited my above post to include the removal of one of the active antivirus applications.

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I removed the Norton Anti Virus, and it seems that the restore console was already installed so i didnt do that bit.

Heres the Combofix and HJT logs.

Ill attach the Combofix log because its extremely long, mostly with files i dont recongise so i dont want to skip them just in case.

Thanks
Russell

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Hi,

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". Click on Continue.The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
      • Applications and Applets
        Trace and Log Files
    • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
      Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
    • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

================================
  • Open notepad (Start>All programs>accessories>notepad )
  • Copy the entire contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as CFScript.txt
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop
(It must be notepad, not wordpad, or it won't work):

Code:
File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ko.o
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ybwxvtct.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmona.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\lanmanwrk.exe

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{2C412AD1-9CC6-4965-AADF-4705BD83F8CF}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\ssqonll]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\winxpn32]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\ApachInc]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\ctfmona]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\lanmanwrk.exe]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\rock]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\{FF3F0F03-0F01-131A-A3F9-08F02B23E0CC}]
[HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\Program Files\\LimeWire\\LimeWire.exe"=-
Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

===================================

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove if Kaspersky online scanner is present prior to downloading the most up-to-date one.

Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop in txt format.

Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your next post.

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans for no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware app you use.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

Or use Firefox with IE-Tab plugin

================================

Please post back the Kaspersky log, combofix.txt and a fresh Hijackthis log. Also let me know how the system is running now.

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Hi,

Please remove the following program via Add or Remove Programs, if present:

C:\Program Files\AliveComputing\Internet Eraser

More info on the program: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/5st...oads/11941646/
================================

Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.

Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
Click the Delete Files... button below. Make sure next are checked:
Applications and Applets
Trace and Log Files

Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window.

Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

==================================
  • Open notepad (Start>All programs>accessories>notepad )
  • Copy the entire contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as CFScript.txt
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop
(It must be notepad, not wordpad, or it won't work):

Code:
File::
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Old Docs\misc\Rct2.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Janette & David\My Documents\My Documents\treeawpfree.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\user32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ho.ln
C:\WINDOWS\index.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\REN18.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\REN17.tmp

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\lanmanwrk.exe]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\mbsmon32]
Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Looking much better.

Please scan with HijackThis and put a checkmark against the following entry:

O23 - Service: Alive Internet Eraser Service (AliveEraseAutoComplete) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\AliveComputing\Internet Eraser\InternetEraserService.exe (file missing)

Close all browsers and windows other than HijackThis and click on "fix checked".

================================

Go to Start > Run. Copy/Paste or type:

sc stop AliveEraseAutoComplete and then click OK
sc delete AliveEraseAutoComplete and then click OK

================================

1. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the contents of the quote box below into a new Notepad file. Save it with file name options.txt and save as file type: all files to your desktop.

Quote:
RegSearch Options File

[Search]

lanmanwrk.exe

[Exclude]

[Options]
Filter=KVDLUI
2. Download Registry Search to your desktop.
  • Right click on the compressed RegSearch folder, and choose "Extract All". In the box that pops open, click "Next", then "Next" again, and then "Finish". You now have another RegSearch folder on your desktop.
  • Open the new folder, and double click on regsearch.exe
  • Click "Import" in the lower left corner and browse to the options.txt file that you just saved on your desktop. Do not choose the one in the RegSearch folder itself.
  • Click OK and Registry Search will scan your registry for the file(s), and a Notepad box will open with a report.
  • Please reply here with the entire contents of the Notepad file from RegSearch.

================================

Restart the computer.

================================

Scan with Kaspersky again and post its log along with the RegSearch log and a fresh HijackThis log please.

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Hello again,

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".

Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

If you use the Firefox or Opera browsers, you can use this program as a quick way to tidy those up as well.

Firefox :
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Opera :
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

When you have finished, click on the Exit button in the Main menu.

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu

=============================
  • Open notepad (Start>All programs>accessories>notepad )
  • Copy the entire contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as CFScript.txt
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop
(It must be notepad, not wordpad, or it won't work. Also make sure the 'wordwrap' is unchecked in the Format menu):

Code:
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\lanmanwrk.exe clean]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\lanmanwrk.exe"=-

Driver::
AliveEraseAutoComplete
Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.

Re: Infected with a nice trojan

Hi,

That looks good now. If you have no further malware issues, you're all set to go.
  • Click Start then Run
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Notice the space between the Combofix and the /

    This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore to prevent reinfection from old restore points.

Here are some steps to make your surfing more secure in future:

Note: Vista users must ensure that any of the programs are Vista compatible BEFORE installing

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Keep your antivirus-program up-to-date and do regular scans with it. Please make sure that you have only one active antivirus program on your system.

IMPORTANT: You Need to Update Windows and Internet Explorer to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the Internet. Please go to the windows update site http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to get the critical updates.

If you are running Microsoft, or any portion thereof, go to the Microsoft's Office Update site http://office.microsoft.com/officeup....aspx?lc=en-us and make sure you have at least all the critical updates installed (Free) Microsoft Office Update.

The following free realtime pestscanners prevent a number of malware-variants from entering your computer, in the first place:

SpywareBlaster A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html
SpywareGuard here

If you haven't got one, already, install a firewall and keep it up-to-date. Please make sure that you have only one active firewall on your system.

A firewall will prevent unauthorized contact between your computer and internet. A tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones can be found here:
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?p=56#56
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial60.html

Test your firewall here to make sure that it's working properly

ATF Cleaner by Atribune is a useful utility to clean the temporary files and cookies on a regular basis.

But above all, keep all your software UP-TO-DATE at all time!!

A colleague of ours has excellent information and tips on the prevention of malware here

If you want to fight back the Malware Writers, please take a look here and read what you can do against it.

Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Happy Surfing!
