Popups, Spikes and Lag...Tried a lot nothin working!

Howdy partners...
Well I've tried AVG Adaware ZoneAlarm S&D, etc...Nothing seems to be
able to catch this adware or virus. I get popups from IE when using Firefox, for random stuff, one just opened now for "Leadsandfeeds.com". When I play Warcraft, I get terrible spikes and eventually disconnect. When I use firefox every 3 or 5 minutes I get a good lag spike for about 20 seconds. The only thing that worked was using Zone Alarm to block IE from opening, and that worked decent but it still lagged and disc. me from games. When I startup my computer I get about 4 errors, 3 of them .DLL errors, which I google'd and couldn't find, and one that says my SQL Server is corrupt. I think that's about all I can t - here's another for "Ovguide.com" - can think of. Truly appreciate the help! If I messed up the attachments or didn't post something please tell me and I'll fix it asap. Also, I remember I was seeing E?plorer.exe? in my task manager for a while, but I might have fixed it. Thanks for the help!

Re: Popups, Spikes and Lag...Tried a lot nothin working!

Hello keepitrail and welcome,

This will require more than one round to properly eradicate. Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

Re: Popups, Spikes and Lag...Tried a lot nothin working!

Hi keepitrail,

ComboFix took out the files for us, now what remains are the orphaned registry entries.

Disable Spybot TeaTimer as it will interfere with the fix below:
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [4018d0aa] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\vdrtuecm.dll",b
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BM432be336] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\etjnawqb.dll",s
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [j3291530] rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\j3291530.dll sook
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Gateway] C:\Program Files\Media Gateway\MediaGateway.exe

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

It's important to run this online scan to search for any remnants. It can take some time, so please be patient and allow it to run it's full course:

Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

---------------------------------------------------------------

Run a new scan with HijackThis.exe (not dss.exe) and save the log.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Please include the following in your next reply:

Kaspersky results
New HijackThis log
Update on system behavior

Re: Popups, Spikes and Lag...Tried a lot nothin working!

Looking good! I'm not getting any more popups! I am still getting lag in games though, as of last night, and disconnects. I'm beginning to think this could be a problem with the router? I have a linksys wau54g and i'm hardwired to it while my girlfriend uses the wirelessness of it. She's getting terrible signals from it, from one room away. So it could be that. I really appreciate the help your forum is giving out! When you give me the all clear I'd love to donate if you guys have a way to do that.

Here's the Kassperasskeys
& Hijack

In the future, attached or just copy & pasted?
(I attached the Kasperksy in case it's easier to read)

Re: Popups, Spikes and Lag...Tried a lot nothin working!

Hi keepitrail,

Copy/paste directly into the thread is preferred unless otherwise instructed.

Yes, it sounds like an issue with the router and signal strength.

Kaspersky is reporting infection in your Sun Java cache. The following procedure will take care of that, as well as provide you further protection.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6. The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". Click on Continue. The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
      • Applications and Applets
        Trace and Log Files
    • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
    • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After you've done that, your logs are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links:

The following procedure will clear out the backups and quarantines created by the fix. It will also reset your System Restore by flushing out previous restore points (which contain the infections) and create a new restore point.

Click Start > Run and copy/paste, or type the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u

--------------------------------------------------------------------

To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:

McAfee Site Advisor--free version. The folks there check out websites and based on their findings, rate it as Safe, Unknown, Caution, or Bad.

SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.
  • It will block any bad ActiveX from running in Internet Explorer and Firefox if it's listed in their database (which you should update frequently). To view their database and list of restricted sites, launch the program and click on each of the tabs on the main display page.

IESpyAD Zoned Out to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. This severely impairs attempts to infect your system as it basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Update, and scan with your onboard Anti Malware and Anti Virus programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles:

PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need?

HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? by Tony Klein
MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER
Understanding and Using Firewalls
http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/search/label/Prevention

**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

-----------------------------------------------------

Follow the list above and the potential for infection will reduce dramatically.

**Kindly respond one more time and let me know if we may consider this thread resolved.
