Relentless adware
Hi, I have been getting incessant pop ups while browsing the internet for the past few weeks, and am in desperate need of help.
If it helps, I know the problem started when I downloaded something off of Limewire (I know, stupid), and since then I have downloaded multiple adware/spyware/virus removers including AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AVG, avast!, HijackThis, Windows Defender, and SmitfraudFix. ADDITIONAL INFO: The popups relate to the current Internet info being looked at, examples include the popup from securityscannersite.com which yields a box that claims the computer is infected, another common one is ad from OVGuide.com, and the rest are generic ads. Re: Relentless adware
No problem and thanks for replying.
The problem persists, and besides being a major nuisance with all the pop ups I also fear it may be harmful, as with some pop ups I get a message from AVG saying TrojanLoop found and the only way to get rid of it is to cancel the pop up window and move the loop to the vault. Re: Relentless adware
Hi,
Did you install a program called Uniblue Registry Booster? You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs. AVG7 Avast! Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash. Please uninstall one of them and keep only one. _________ Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running combofixl: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first. The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time. Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says: The Recovery Console was successfully installed. Please continue as follows:
Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system: C:\ComboFix.txt New HijackThis log. ________ HJT Uninstall list

Re: Relentless adware
Thanks for taking the time to help, I really appreciate it.
A few things first, I uninstalled avast! like you instructed me to do. Also, in regards to the Uniblue Registry question I am not sure, I believe I did download some sort of registry thing in the past but I am not quite positive, and when I looked for it in Add/Remove Programs it wasn't there, so I could not uninstall it. Also, I tried to follow the ComboFix directions carefully but it appears I failed in installing the recovery console (I do not have my Windows CD with me and so I tried downloading it online and I thought it worked but after ComboFix gave me the log at the top it says WARNING! Does not have recovery console ((see below)) ) Finally, it might be important to add that I received the dreaded blue screen of death during my first run of ComboFix. However, I rebooted the computer and ran it again and it worked perfectly. Just wanted to let you know in case this could be serious. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, I have been browsing the internet for a good 10 minutes and so far, no annoying pop-ups. Please post the log that combofix created. On your next reply, please include a

Re: Relentless adware
Hi,
Some optional uninstalls.. LimeWire 4.16.6 Even when a program like this is not infected itself, it will still bring malware into your system because more than half of all files available for download from peer-to-peer networks have been deliberately infected with some form of malware. I recommend that you remove this program from your system. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". In 2006, this may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware. *If you choose to remove those optionals, click start > control panel > add or remove programs > uninstall the optionals. Delete the following folders if you uninstalled their corresponding programs: C:\program files\Limewire C:\program files\Viewpoint __________ Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process. First step:
*Delete this file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\core.cache.dsk *Open notepad. Copy and paste the text inside the Code Box below into Notepad Choose File > Save As and under "Save as type", choose "All Files". Type fix.reg in the File name and save it to your desktop. Code:

Close notepad. Make sure that all windows are closed. Find the fix.reg file on your desktop. Double click it. It will then ask if you want the file merged to your registry. Answer Yes. *Click start > run > copy and paste: sc delete DMSKSSRh press enter. Reboot your machine. _________ Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:

Re: Relentless adware
Hi, the computer has been running fine, especially when browsing the internet.
There was one thing that I believe is totally unrelated and that is my computer randomly shut off, and would not turn on for a good 15 minutes. I am pretty sure it is due to a faulty power button connection. Re: Relentless adware
Hi,
Quote:
You can post in our RAM and PSU forum for assistance: http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...upply-support/ Congratulations! Your log looks clean! Click start > run > copy and paste: combofix /u That will hide your system files, clear your system restore cache and uninstall combofix. Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your pc's security. Firewall Application - Although Windows Xp comes with a firewall, you should not rely on it because the Windows Firewall can only filter incoming data; outgoing traffic is not controlled, meaning that malware/viruses that are present in your computer can access the internet with no restrictions. There are several other Firewall that can protect you better by filtering incoming and outgoing data. Make sure you get only one of these. » Comodo » Kerio MVPS Hosts File ~You can download it from here ~I highly recommend this hosts file. You can learn more about this here Install SpyWare Blaster ~You can download it from here ~You can read the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here Install WinPatrol ~You can download it from here ~You can get some information about how WinPatrol works here Note: Make sure you update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system. Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?" Happy safe surfing! Note: Please reply to this thread one last time so I could close it.
