Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
A yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside it appears on the bottom right-hand side of my screen. Nothing happens when I do a right click or a left click on it.
My computer is lagging behind on all the tasks I try to do on it, taking longer to open up when double-clicked, bring up webpages, etc. Every 10 seconds, a sound comes through my speakers like a hiccup sound. My home page is set to "awesomehomepage.com" and sometimes "index.com" or "searchnut.com". These came back after I had tried to change it from them and had rebooted my PC. Not sure if this is a problem, but when the computer is on and I'm not using it for some time (maybe 20 minutes or so), the computer starts to sound as though it's processing or running something. It seems that some/all these problems above are associated with the reason why my computer no longer brings up a specific dialog box on a website that I have special access to from my job. I am no longer able to enter into that website anymore since all these things started happening. I went through all the steps before posting, except for #5, because DSS wouldn't run stating "Autolt Error--Unable to open the script file". So HijackThis didn't run through DSS, so I don't have the log (unless I was supposed to run HijackThis separatetly since I couldn't get DSS to run). I do have the log from the Panda scan as inserted below. Any help will be thoroughly appreciated. P2P - I see you have P2P software ( LimeWire 4.16.6 ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information. Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares. References for the risk of these programs are here, here and here. I would strongly recommend that you uninstall it. You can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first. The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode if needed. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time. Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says: The Recovery Console was successfully installed. ![]() Please continue as follows: Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware. When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log. Please download HijackThis to your desktop Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please post the logs from: ComboFix (C:\ComboFix.txt) HijackThis If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.

Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
Thanks tetonbob for the quick reply.
I have deleted Limewire and was on my way with following the rest of the instructions, when I encountered a slight problem. I saved ComboFix to my desktop along with the appropriate file off Microsoft's website so that ComboFix could install the Windows Recovery console. (I didn't have the Windows XP SP2 CD). When I dragged the icon for that particular file over the ComboFix icon as instructed in the guide, the ComboFix icon kept moving over as I attempted to do so. So I haven't been able to get the Windows Recovery console installed yet (that I know of). I haven't proceeded with the other steps yet b/c I wasn't sure whether or not to move on with the other instructions. |

Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
I'm not really sure I understand this:

Does ComboFix attempt to run? The Red X of ComboFix moves on the desktop???

Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
I actually tried both left clicking and then right clicking to drag and drop it over the ComboFix icon(Red X). Still, with either way of clicking on the file to attempt to drag and drop it over the ComboFix icon, it seems that the ComboFix icon just "scoots out of the way" and makes room for the Windows XP file on the desktop, wherever it's placed on the desktop. (I tried moving the ComboFix icon to another location on the desktop to see if that would help but it just keeps doing the same thing.)
Yes, Combofix has attempted to run if I left clicked on it (without trying to drag and drop the Windows XP file on it, though). |

Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
Ok, I may understand now....I do believe you're dropping the package next to, instead of directly on ComboFix. I've duplicated what you seem to be describing. Make sure the Recovery Console package completely covers the ComboFix icon before you release the mouse.
If still no joy, please do this: Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it: Quote:
It should look like this: Double click on run.bat & allow it to run Follow the prompts

Thank you tetonbob!!! I followed all the suggestions/instructions you provided and after doing so I noticed that the yellow triangle is gone away and so is the "hiccup noise" that kept coming through my speakers every 10 seconds. Also I'm able to access my job's website again. Plus my computer is back to its regular speed and no longer lagging behind. The only thing that remains but doesn't seem to be a huge interference is that my home page is still set to "awesomehomepage.com" or "index.com", "searchnut.com" etc. Here are the two posts from ComboFix and HijackThis: ComboFix 08-04-29.3 - Compaq_Owner 2008-04-30 13:02:14.1 - NTFSx86 Running from: C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\ComboFix.exe . Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
Good work. This will take a few more posts to clear up completely.
Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
Hi clemarlea -
That's good to hear. Did you run ComboFix, and if so, can you post it's log, now located at C:\ComboFix.txt?

Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
Great, a bit more work to do....
Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...p=ZNxmk572YYUS O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/noc...1.0.0.15-3.exe Close HijackThis now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please run this online scan to help look for remnants. First, Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove Kaspersky online scanner if present prior to downloading the most up-to-date one. Next, establish an internet connection & perform an online scan using Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Yellow triangle with exclamation point and other computer problems
Good job.
============================ Locate and delete these adware related files/folders C:\Downloads\FamilyFeudSetup-dm[1].exe C:\Downloads\JEOPARDYSetup-dm[1].exe C:\Program Files\SoftwareRevenue.org ============================ Please use Symantec's guide to remove the Norton Quarantine files. ============================ The other items found by Kaspersky will be addressed by uninstalling ComboFix as instructed below. Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Go to -> Run -> copy/paste in the following single line command & click OKcombofix /u This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points. Now that your system is clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you follow these steps and use the following free programs:
