Re: Popups, Weird IE start-up homepage
Hi MomNJB
I apologize for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy here lately. If you are still having malware problems, I will be glad to help. Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Please ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. We also suggest that you Subscribe to this thread to be notified of fixes as soon as they are posted by our Team. You can do this simply by clicking the "Thread Tools" button located in the original thread line and selecting "Subscribe to this Thread". IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T MISS A STEP & PERFORM EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER. =============================================== Additional Downloads Please download these additional files/programs. Do not run them until instructed to do so. Unless otherwise stated, they should be stored in same directory as the HiJackThis program. ================= Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop. We will use this later ================= Please download HijackThis to your desktop - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Alternate link Make sure you close down EVERY open window and close ALL browser windows. The only thing that should be open is the HijackThis program. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Install" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Close it again we will use this later =============================================== Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following: 1) Restart your computer 2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8. 3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear 4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter. 5) Login with your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers. ================= Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe to start the tool. Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. You will be prompted : " Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter. The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question " Replace infected file?" by typing Y and hit Enter. The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: (C:\rapport.txt) or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. ================================================== From Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, uninstall the following programs, if present, :
================= Run a scan with HiJackThis & select/tick the following & click "Fix checked" : R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file) R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file) O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} () - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/noc...1.0.0.15-3.cab O16 - DPF: {66F7F252-3FE1-4650-B1E5-94B2A38271C5} (ActiveView Control) - Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked. =============================================== If you have not done so already, please enable the viewing of Hidden files From Windows Explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options> View tab.

Re: Popups, Weird IE start-up homepage
HI MomNJB
Your log are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions. C:\System Volume Information\ is where System Restore's cache is stored. Whatever is in there can't harm you unless you choose to perform a manual restore. Nevertheless, we shall be reseting/clearing the cache in a little while Now that your system is clean, kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure: You may delete DSS.exe and SmitfraudFix from your desktop also you can delete this folder C:\ Deckard
To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them: McAfee Site Advisor--free version. The folks there check out websites and based on their findings, rate it as Safe, Unknown, Caution, or Bad. SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.
IESpyAD Zoned Out to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. This severely impairs attempts to infect your system as it basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites. Update, and scan with your onboard Anti Malware and Anti Virus programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released. In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles: PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need?
