Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

My home page keeps resetting to www.softwarereferral.com

This is my kids computer and they told me they got the virus from armorgames.com I think.

I have run spybot, ad-aware, deckard and hijack. Norton finds the virus/trojan but will not remove it.

Below is my hijack this file and attatched is the deckard extra test report. If you need something else or if I missed something please let me know. I have tried to follow as many of the steps as possible.

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

I also have these Icons,Error Cleaner, Privacy Protector, & Spyware/Malware Protector, on my desktop. I see a referrance to these in another thread just a couple of steps down. Have downloaded the recommended links from that thread but have not run them as of yet.

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

I know you guys are busy and I found a post with exactly the same problem and followed the instruction there. It looks like everything is ok but I would love it when you have time to look at my log files since this is the final step in the other posting and see if I actually did get everything out that should be removed. I have run Smitfraud, cleaned all files etc as directed in safe mode, then combofix. Reran hijack and below is the result.

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

Hello meich and welcome to TSF,

Nice work so far, but I need you to delete your existing ComboFix.exe and download the newest version from one of the links below:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Disconnect from the internet.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following entries:

O2 - BHO: SWEETIE - {1A0AADCD-3A72-4b5f-900F-E3BB5A838E2A} - C:\PROGRA~1\MACROG~1\SWEETI~1\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: SweetIM For Internet Explorer - {BC4FFE41-DE9F-46fa-B455-AAD49B9F9938} - C:\Program Files\Macrogaming\SweetIMBarForIE\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: The egodktf - {82EA267C-402D-4DB6-A2B8-EBF03D385CC1} - C:\WINDOWS\egodktf.dll (file missing)

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:

Code:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/hijackthis-log-help/213856-trojan-found-cannot-get-deleted-post1285202.html#post1285202

Collect::
C:\WINDOWS\aslpmqk.dll

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
"aslpmqk"=-
Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note: When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.
  • A browser will open.
  • Simply follow the instructions to copy/paste/send the requested file.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Please include the following in your next reply:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log
Update on system behavior

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

Trojan seems to still be here prior to combo fix. Attempts to connect to website ucleaner.com. Chnaged background image as well. Since running combo fix this has stopped. Logs requested posted below. Thanks so much for your help.

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

You're welcome, meich.

We have a bit more to do. Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

Also be sure to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

***************************************************

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop. Do not run it yet.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following entries:

O21 - SSODL: bxsnvqt - {223BD268-FCD9-40DE-967D-15E21CECCE52} - C:\WINDOWS\bxsnvqt.dll (file missing)
O24 - Desktop Component 0: Privacy Protection - file:///C:\WINDOWS\privacy_danger\index.htm

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:

Code:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/hijackthis-log-help/213856-trojan-found-cannot-get-deleted-post1287794.html#post1287794

Collect::
C:\WINDOWS\fknxwqf.exe
Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note: When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.
  • A browser will open.
  • Simply follow the instructions to copy/paste/send the requested file.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Please run this online scan to search for any remnants. It can take some time, so please be patient and allow it to run it's full course:

Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

---------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool.
  • Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"
  • A text file will appear which lists infected files (if present).
  • Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so

---------------------------------------------------------------

Run a new scan with HijackThis and save the log.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Please include the following in your next reply:

C:\ComboFix.txt
Kaspersky results
SmitfraudFix report
New HijackThis log
Update on system behavior

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

Background image that self populated is now gone and home page is no longer redirecting. I have not tried anything else other than your website and the link for the scan you directed me to.

Try zipping it, then attach the zip file you created.

Right click the file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file.

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

Also...the ComboFix log you posted is not the most recent run.

Click Start>Run and copy/paste the following into the Run box and click OK.:

C:\ComboFix.txt

The ComboFix.txt will open for you--please copy/paste the contents here.

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

Thanks, meich.

Believe it or not, that huge Kaspersky report only boils down to the presence of tools used to clean this system, and the backups they've created during this process. We'll take care of that shortly.

These simple steps will clear the other nuisances found by Kaspersky:

Launch Spybot S&D. Click 'Recovery' and Purge all items.

----------------------------------------

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u4.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the pull down menu next to Platform select Windows
  • Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement"
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

-------------------------------------------

Your logs are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links:

This next step will clear out ComboFix.exe, as well as the backups and quarantines created by the fix. It will also reset your System Restore by flushing out previous restore points (which contain the infections) and create a new restore point.

Click Start > Run and copy/paste, or type the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u

--------------------------------------------------------------------

To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:

McAfee Site Advisor--free version. The folks there check out websites and based on their findings, rate it as Safe, Unknown, Caution, or Bad.

SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.
  • It will block any bad ActiveX from running in Internet Explorer and Firefox if it's listed in their database (which you should update frequently). To view their database and list of restricted sites, launch the program and click on each of the tabs on the main display page.

IESpyAD Zoned Out to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. This severely impairs attempts to infect your system as it basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Update, and scan with your onboard Anti Malware and Anti Virus programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles:

PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need?

HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? by Tony Klein
THE ANTI-SPYWARE TUTORIAL
MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER
Understanding and Using Firewalls

**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

-----------------------------------------------------

Follow the list above and the potential for infection will reduce dramatically.

**Kindly respond one more time and let me know if we may consider this thread resolved.

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

One last question. Each of my children, all teenager, have seperate user names. Do I need to put each of these systems listed above under each user name or will it automatically work for each one?

Re: Trojan found and cannot get it deleted

You're welcome, meich.

They should all install globally--meaning for every User Acct. All I can say is test it out. Make sure you see them loading for each acct, and if not, install it separately. I wish I could be more specific, but I only have 1 User acct on my system.
