I have Spybot - Search and Destroy installed and have run a number of other virus scans but nothing seems to be picked up. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Re: Google search redirect
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...Fixwareout.exe http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe Save it to your desktop S& D Spybot's Tea Timer While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent our tools from fixing certain things. Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
Download ResetTeaTimer.bat by right-clicking on the link, and choosing Save As. Save it to your desktop, or somewhere you can find it easily. Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer. Run FixWareout by doubleclicking on the file you downloaded. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal. Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved. Please post the contents of the text file that opened earlier (you can find it at C:\fixwareout\report.txt ) in your next reply. **If you receive an error message while trying to run FixWareout, copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, and run FixWareout again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are using an outdated version of HijackThis. Please uninstall from Add or Remove Programs, and then delete your current version. Next, download HijackThis to your desktop Alternate link This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Please post a new log with the updated version.. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Google search redirect
What is your current AntiVirus solution? I don't see a dedicated AntiVirus application installed?
Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINNT\system32\Userinit.exe O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{35D0F4F9-DD89-4638-B842-2ED4BDAD4019}: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{56D4E32E-56E7-4CC5-B47D-A71C5AD9A69A}: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D7AE6398-621B-495C-BFA3-29D4B5A38E79}: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222 Close HijackThis now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before we continue, tell me the system behavior.

Re: Google search redirect
Hi
Have deleted those 4 items. I don't (currently) have a dedicated Anti-Virus solution. If you are able to suggest any that would be great! It doesn't look like I'm getting the error anymore in google either - which is brilliant - thank you! Lu |

Re: Google search redirect
Here are a few very good free Antivirus products which are available:Select one of these, or another of your choice. Do not install more than one antivirus program because they will conflict with each other. It is imperative that you update your antivirus software at least once a week (even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch new malware that may have come out.
Run a full system scan after installing and updating definitions, and then post a new HijackThis log.

Re: Google search redirect
Did AntiVir find anything when you ran it's scan? And is your machine now behaving well?

Re: Google search redirect
Good job, Lu -
Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update. Updating Java:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C:\Deckard is DSS working folder. You can safely delete it. Also delete dss.exe C:\System Volume Information\ is where System Restore's cache is stored. Whatever is in there can't harm you unless you choose to perform a manual restore. Nevertheless, we shall be resetting/clearing the cache in a little while. Reset hidden/system files and folders
Clear & Reset System Restore's Cache
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you don't have them already:
Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
