Google hijack fix did not work

Working with a badly infected computer was able to clean much of it up.
One of the remaining issues:
Any Google search yields a misdirected links page at 85.255.120.26/feed/search.
I saw this problem on another thread and tried the suggested fix to run
Fixwareout which did not work.
I am sending fixware report (attached) and hijack log with this post.
Also note that C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe is now missing and will not allow system restore to work. I will have to place that separately.
All help appreciated.

Re: Google hijack fix did not work

Download SDFix from here and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.

In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the script.

It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.

Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.

Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum.

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Caution...Never run and remove files using ComboFix without being supervised by a security analyst.

Re: Google hijack fix did not work

SDFix completed and Google Hijack corrected.
ComboFix failed to complete after 1/2 hour and all stages but had total blue screen with only an arrow on it so rebooted.

svchost needed for system restore was replaced by sfc /scannow but restore service can not find it. It is in C:\Windows|System32 where it should be. Help Please.

Here are reports requested.
Please advise any additional action required.

Re: Google hijack fix did not work

You seem to be missing the full Combofix log.Can you post it please.

We need to download the installation package from Microsoft so that it can be used to install the Recovery Console on your computer. The Windows recovery console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode that allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. No validation required! Please select the download link below that's appropriate for your Operating System then download and save the setup package to your desktop. If necessary, change the language version to match your installation. Do NOT change the name of the downloaded file!

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Service Pack 1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-719F45C382A4

Service Pack 2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...D-81C2137FF464

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Without Service Packs

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...7-4FED408EA73F

Service Pack 1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...2-631504EF5E26

Service Pack 2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...C-0A0205368124

Download the file & save it as it's originally named, next to the ComboFix.exe.

Now close all open windows and programs, then drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.

Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console. When complete, a log named CF_RC.txt will open. Please post the contents of that log.

Please do not reboot your machine until we have reviewed the log.

Re: Google hijack fix did not work

Before I proceed with your next step to install the recovery console you asked for the first ComboFix log. But as previously reported:ComboFix failed to complete after 1/2 hour and all stages but had total blue screen with only an arrow on it, so rebooted. Therefore, log sent was all there was. Should I repeat original ComboFix process before proceding?

Re: Google hijack fix did not work

Ran Combofix with Install Package as instructed. Combofix ended after CF-RC Report.
What is next step?

CF-RC.txt as follows:

Re: Google hijack fix did not work

Here is the log and a new hijacklog (attached).
The logs are dated Jan 27, system clock was wrong and has been corrected.

I tried to test install of System Restore by attemting to turn it off.
Got error "System Restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try again."

Re: Google hijack fix did not work

Fixed Hijack Options as requested. New log below.
System Restore is still inoperative. If you try to test it by running Restore Wizard you get message:" System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer and then run System Restore again."
