Re: Completed 2/5 steps - please look over this and tell me what to do
Okay, we did the repair install. I don't know if this makes any difference, but this is the second time we've used the disk to do a repair install, and there was really no positive outcome in the end. Everything is exactly how it is.
SnoopFree keeps telling us that all our programs have keyloggers in them, and I believe this is because the virus has worked its way into legit programs, as you said? AVG found 6 Java viruses, and removed them, but because we are offline, we cannot update. I don't know what to do beyond this. -- The repair install basically did not work. |

Snoopfree can very well be alerting you to legit programs that monitor your keystrokes. I'd need to know exactly which programs it's alerting you to.

We did a complete reinstall with Advanced Options - moving all our old files into a folder called "My Backup", and thus found 50 trojan horse viruses in AVG. We now seem to be virus free, and Spybot and AVG are not finding anything; we no longer have any of the behaviors of a system with viruses. We have Spyware Blaster and ZonedOut installed, and are in the process of getting a firewall. IE security settings are on "high". I think we can safely call this "closed"
Thank you for all your help, Ried. You are absolutely fantastic, and have helped solve many problems this week. I greatly appreciate your effort put into this problem! ![]() ![]()

Re: Completed 2/5 steps - please look over this and tell me what to do
You're welcome, omgmizzle. You will find the following program to be quite helpful as well:
McAfee Site Advisor--free version. The folks there check out websites and based on their findings, rate it as Safe, Unknown, Caution, or Bad. In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles: PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? by Tony Klein THE ANTI-SPYWARE TUTORIAL MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER Understanding and Using Firewalls **Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them. ----------------------------------------------------- Follow the list above and the potential for infection will reduce dramatically. ![]() Take care.
