I have AVG anti-spyware and AVG 7.5 for viruses. Well every time I run the spyware I get a bucket load of spyware, and I have the program delete it, but next time its all back there again. Can this be eliminated permanently, and can I find out what is putting it on the comp? How can this be prevented?

Re: Need help with spyware
Well, it depends on what AVG AS is calling spyware. Quite often these are simply cookies.
Best if you perform the steps outlined here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...tml#post342651 After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs. If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Re: Need help with spyware
Those finds by Panda are mostly cookies.
Cookies are nothing to be worried about. They get installed on your computer everytime you visit any webpage. Now some of those are good cookies that get installed for ease of use for next time you visit the same page, but some cookies are spyware used for tracking users surfing habits. Most of those cookies are third party cookies that can be blocked: In Firefox go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies Click Exceptions, identify the site you want to block, and click on Block. In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Privacy and click on Advanced in the Privacy tab Now put a check next to "Override automatic cookie handling" Set first party cookies to Accept and third party cookies to Block Also put a check to "Always allow session cookies" OK your way out. This won't prevent all bad cookies from being installed, but will reduce the amount. You can read more about cookies at the Cookie Concept --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3 Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03 Java(TM) 6 Update 2 Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 These are all outdated, and security risks by having them installed still. Unfortunately, Java does not uninstall previous version when you update, nor tell you that you should. Leave Java(TM) 6 Update 3 alone, as it is the most recent. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's run a scan with AVG Anti-Spyware. Please update it's definitions, and run a scan where I have placed it in this fix. Run AVG Anti-Spyware
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run AVG Anti-Spyware with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
Restart in normal mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post the log from AVG AntiSpyware.

Re: Need help with spyware
Allright well I had to do it a bit different, since I have the free version, i could not click setting and apply all to quarantine BEFORE the scan, so I did it after, but I couldn't remember when you said to save so I saved it twice, before the quarantine and after, not sure if theres a difference, so i am sending both reports.

Re: Need help with spyware
Nothing there but cookies.
Use the information I gave you about cookies in my last post to help you control them, and to alleviate your concerns about them. Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. C:\Deckard is DSS working folder. You can safely delete it. Also delete dss.exe C:\System Volume Information\ is where System Restore's cache is stored. Whatever is in there can't harm you unless you choose to perform a manual restore. Nevertheless, we shall be resetting/clearing the cache in a little while. Reset hidden/system files and folders
Clear & Reset System Restore's Cache
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you don't have them already:
Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Re: Need help with spyware
I did not download IE-SpyAd because it says it is strictly for IE? If this is not so, please let me know right away, or if you know of a similar one for firefox. I maybe use IE 1-2 times a month for sites that "don't support firefox" like my mortgage company. I do not like IE. So I figured I really didn't need that one? Correct me if I am wrong. I downloaded all the others. I have quite a collection of protection icons on my desktop, I call them my army. Ha.
Well thank you for your help, I appreciate the help, and glad people like you share their knowledge so freely and generously. What would we do with out you? I will be back in the future if I need help again. |

Re: Need help with spyware
IE-Spyad is for IE.
I use Firefox a lot, but I also use IE-Spyad. It uses little in the way of system resources, and is there for the times you have to use IE. Whether you install it or not is up to you. ![]() There is something for Firefox called Cookie Safe, though I've not used it. More Firefox cookie control options here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ookie&status=4
