Re: Google search redirect problem
Hi, I've updated the HijackThis log to version 2.0.0.2.
I've stopped using Internet Explorer, switched to Firefox. I've stopped using Outlook Express, switched to Thunderbird. Both of these were giving me issues; redirects with IE Google search, and total shut down in OE when selecting a file or new folder. I'm also including other scans as recommended in your "do this first" posting. Hope these help in your analysis. Thanks, Mike Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 11:07:13 AM, on 12/1/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16544) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\iaanotif.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\DMXLauncher.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost\Agent\GhostTray.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 12\pccguide.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DLA\DLACTRLW.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\hpoopm07.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ACDSYS~1\DEVDET~1\DEVDET~1.EXE C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Picasa2\PicasaMediaDetector.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 12\TMAS_OE\TMAS_OEMon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\AiO\hp officejet g series\Bin\hpoavn07.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\GEARSec.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\iaantmon.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\HEWLET~1\AiO\Shared\Bin\hpoevm07.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost\Agent\VProSvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\PcCtlCom.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\Tmntsrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\ehome\mcrdsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\TmPfw.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\AiO\Shared\bin\hpOSTS07.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\svcntaux.exe C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\swdsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\SDTrayApp.exe C:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\tmproxy.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdtc.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\vssvc.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe R0 - Re: Google search redirect problem
Hello Mike. Welcome to TSF, and thank you for your patience.
This will require more than one round to properly eradicate. Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate. Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions. It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below. *************************************************** Download Combofix and save it to your desktop. **Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop** -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Disconnect from the internet. 2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall |

Re: Google search redirect problem
Hello Mike526,
Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions. Also be sure to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below. *************************************************** 1. Close any open browsers. 2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the fixes below. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following entries: R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {9285901C-2731-4E57-8F17-6B016168CA98} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9d7a0eba-1dd1-11b2-b76b-8ffbe1a763bd} - C:\WINDOWS\bsjgfyxk.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {e64192bc-1dd1-11b2-9bd3-f3492c023485} - C:\WINDOWS\dyvodsfm.dll O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0B53EAC3-8D69-4b9e-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {9285901C-2731-4E57-8F17-6B016168CA98} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinPerfMon] C:\info.exe O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing) O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing) Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it: Code:
File:: C:\WINDOWS\dyvodsfm.dll C:\WINDOWS\bsjgfyxk.dll Folder:: C:\WINDOWS\PerfInfo Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please run this online scan to search for any remnants. Re: Google search redirect problem
Hello Ried,
Your requested logs (ComboFix, Kaspersky, and HijackThis) follow. Kaspersky had a difficult time downloading all of it's files. It failed a number of times, but eventually was successful. I had disabled all anti virus and malware programs I knew about, but Internet Explorer gave me a popup about firewall problems during Kaspersky's downloads. I just kept retrying and it finally all downloaded. The latest system behavior shows no redirects using Google search within Internet Explorer. This issue appears solved. I've got to ask you what do you recommend I use for continued elimination and prevention of spyware/malware? At the start of this I was using Spybot; it found none of this. I purchased Spyware Doctor and initially this found a lot more than Spybot did, a run of Spyware's Malware Dectetive was sent to them. They said any fix of my problems would come with Spyware Updates. So far nothing in their updates has addressed this issue. You have had me run a variety of scans, but it took you to identify what ComboFix was to eliminate. What can I use on my own? Re: Google search redirect problem
Hi Mike,
Malware variants and mutations arrive 'on the scene' at such a rapid rate these days, that there's only so much the commercial anti malware and anti virus programs can do. Thus the need for forums such as this, and our specialty tools. The set up you have is good, except personally, I recommend SuperAntiSpyware (free, by the way) over SpywareDoctor. Download SUPERAntiSypware Free for Home Users Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe to install and use the default settings for installation. Launch SUPERAntiSypware and select "Check for Updates". You can keep SpywareDoctor until the subscription runs out, but you don't want too many anti malware programs with active protection, running at one time. One of those would have to be disabled, and called upon only when needed to run system scans. Your logs are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links: The following procedure will clear out the tools we've used as well as the backups and quarantines created by the fix. It will also reset your System Restore by flushing out previous restore points (which contain the infections) and create a new restore point. Click Start > Run and copy/paste, or type the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK: ComboFix /u -------------------------------------------------------------------- Launch Spybot S&D>Recovery>Purge all items. -------------------------------------------------------------------- To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them: McAfee Site Advisor--free version. The folks there check out websites and based on their findings, rate it as Safe, Unknown, Caution, or Bad. SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.
IESpyAD Zoned Out to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
