Slow moving but see no problems

Hi all!

I have a slow loading computer! I have defragged, disk cleaned, used Wise Registry Cleaner, Spybot Adware, regedit, etc. I have even looked up all of the running processes I have from Task Manager. Can anyone tell me what they see that makes it run so slow?

Here is my Hijack this log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

Hi Cindy

Delete your outdated copy of Hijackthis
C:\Program Files\hijack this\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe
Download the HijackThis Installer: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
exit the program we do not need its log at this time.

Please follow as many of the 5 steps as possible and then post the required logs in this thread.
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...sting-log.html
Also in your next post please let us know of any problems you may have following the 5 steps and an update on system behaviour

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

Launch Notepad (not wordpad or other text editor), and copy and paste the contents of the code box below into a new text file.
Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the word code). Save as file type: All files (*.*) and save it on your Desktop.
Code:
REGEDIT4
;
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"Notification Packages"=hex(7):73,63,65,63,6c,69,00,00
;
Now double-click on the fixme.reg file you saved and click on the Yes button when it asks if you would like to merge the information. Once you get a successful message delete fixme.reg.

Restart your PC.

Is your PC running any better ?
In a subfolder within C:\Deckard\System Scanner\ will be extra.txt, post it please

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

Hi Lonnie!

No, there seems to be no noticable difference in the speed of the computer. I did the fixme.reg and received a successful message, rebooted but it is just as slow as before.

Here is the extra.txt from Decker:

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

Looks OK cindyroo

Since liveupdate isn't installed Start Hijackthis Scan and place a check next to these items.
O23 - Service: Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: LiveUpdate - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\LIVEUP~1\LUCOMS~1.EXE (file missing)
====================================
Hit fix checked and close Hijackthis.
Restart the PC

In the windows control panel addremove programs uninstall
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
Java Web Start
Then go get and install the current version

Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 is outdated, uninstall and go get the current version

Were there any programs installed at about the time you noticed a problem ?
Why havent you updated to SP2 yet ?

Take a look here concerning Slow computers:

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

Back again, Lonnie!

I did the fixes, updated java, updated spybot (that was fun) and tried to install SP2. I had tried SP2 a year ago (or so) but it was not doing well on my computer - don't remember the details except I did have Norton at the time - Norton is a no no. I tried to update automatically as it suggests but it doesn't seem to load.

There are two things I noticed while checking the msconfig - I have an brntray.exe (Rewards Network???) file (unchecked in start up) and a hkcmd.exe file located in C:\WINNT\System32. Wondering if these need fixing too?

Sorry to be such a pain but doing all of this helps me learn my computer better too and I will make a donation on payday for all of your help!

The computer is still a slow loader - I have 248MBs of RAM - could that be it (after all of this!)

Thanks, Lonnie!

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

You should have atleast 512 memory

That item rewards network, If you like it can be fixed, in msconfig check it exit msconfig, no to the reboot prompt, then scan with hijackthis and fix it. understand ?
Delete the Rewards Network folder in program files if it exists

HotKeysCmds C:\WINNT\System32\hkcmd.exe Is an optional startup
Quote:

If the user wishes to have "HotKey" access to Intel's customised graphics properties, it is required, otherwise not. It can be disabled via the Display Properties in the Control Panel
========
Rather than use the windows automatic updates, have you tried visiting the update website ? take note or any errors and let us know.

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

Hey Lonnie!

Well, it might be the lack of RAM causing the slow up. My boss says he may have some RAM he could donate otherwise I am going shopping.

I tried again to load SP2 but apparently I have some "permissions" problems so I'll have my boss fix that as well.

The only thing I've noticed that has happened since I emailed you in the first place is often it takes 2-3 tries to get IE to open. Sometimes, I have to actually right click and click on "Open Home Page". That usually does the trick but not always. Any suggestions? I am sure it's fixable.

Thanks for everything!

Re: Slow moving but see no problems

That will probably get solved when your able to install all critical updates from Microsoft, including ie7.
