Please help with Hijackthis scan

My fathers computer would not allow internet explorer, nor hardly any of his other programs, to open. I thought I would run an antivirus or spyware remover on his system, but I found that the computer will not allow those programs to be installed. A friend told me to try Hijackthis! and so here I am with my fathers logfile. I have no clue what to do, and any/all help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Please help with Hijackthis scan

Hi

Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer

Save it to your desktop.

Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it

Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\DOCUME~1\Rob\LOCALS~1\Temp\delus.exe

Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.

Click the red Moveit! button.

Close OTMoveIt

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
=============================

Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Re: Please help with Hijackthis scan

Hi, and thanks for the reply. As I cannot open internet explorer on that computer I have 2 issues. I tried downloading the OTmoveIt program to my flash drive, and moving it onto the desktop of my fathers computer and then followed your instructions. When I did it popped up a window that said:

cannot creat file C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\10192007_185546.log

And in the result window it Said:

File/Folder C:\DOCUME~1\Rob\LOCALS~1\Temp\delus.exe not found. Created on 10/19/2007 18:55:46

My second problem is that since that computer will not open internet explorer I am not sure how I will complete the second part of your instructions involving the website www.kapersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html. Please inform me if there is anything that can be done.
Thank you for your time and help so far and hopefully in the future.

Re: Please help with Hijackthis scan

Can you install FireFox and see if you can get running that way.??

http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/

Also....

First off please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized .

Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of the main.txt back to the forum.

Please do the same with extra.txt .

=========

What DSS will do:
1: Creat a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
2: Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
3: Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for the analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Re: Please help with Hijackthis scan

I Tried and ended up with the same results with the MoveIt program, and the webscan won't work. I can only get online with firefox, and it says that it requires internet explorer, because it uses activex.

Re: Please help with Hijackthis scan

Ok.Give this a go...

Please download Combofix from HERE or HERE

Save ComboFix to the desktop.

1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Copy and Paste the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log. Do not use Code or html unless asked for.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.

Re: Please help with Hijackthis scan

Please copy this page to *Notepad* and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Open *notepad* and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:

File::
C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\updater]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\Win Server Updt]
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe which is on the Desktop.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

Restart your computer.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt

Please copy and paste the ComboFix.txt along with a fresh HijackThis log in your next reply please.

*Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall*

Re: Please help with Hijackthis scan

Nearly done.Just need to do a scan after this and that should be it..

Open *notepad* and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
Quote:

Dir::
C:\FOUND.003
C:\FOUND.002
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe which is on the Desktop.

=============================

Please copy this page to *Notepad* and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Open *notepad* and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:

Folder::
C:\FOUND.003
C:\FOUND.002
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe which is on the Desktop.

===============

Have you tried to use Firefox instead of IE.Failing that do a system restore and see if that helps...

To do a Restore.

click on the Start button
select Programs
select Accessories
select System Tools
select System Restore

Start the System restore program.
Click the button next to "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click the "Next" button.
A calendar will appear. Click on the date that you wish to restore Windows to. The box next to the calendar will show you the available restore points from that day. The ones marked "System Checkpoint" are the automatic ones that Windows XP created.
Choose the one you want, then click "Next". Don't pick a point too far back in the past,maybe one just before you started having problems -- remember, any programs you installed since your restoration point may not work anymore,so you may have to reinstall them.
Reboot your PC.

As far as using firefox, that is what I'm doing now to get online, but the kaspersky webscan says that it requires the use of activex, and I need internet explorer. When my father first brought it to my attention that his computer was not working I tried going back to a restore point, but that did not help any. Should I consider trying to uninstall/reinstall IE.? Also I don't know if this helps, but if I go into properties on IE. to change the homepage it won't allow anything to change and will always try to open this as it's homepage:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157

I'm not sure if that means anything or if that is the default, but I know that it was not what my father had for his homepage. Thanks for all the help so far, and any help going forward.

You can maybe try a reinstall of IE.If this does not work I suggest you seek help in one of our other forums.
