World of Warcraft Keylogger
Dumbly, I clicked a link that later revealed itself to be a keylogger.
I've run NOD32 which removed one file (which it reported it could not identify), AVG Anti-Spyware (which removed a slew of various cookies), Windows Defender (which removed nothing), and Panda Online scan (currently in progress). The link to the site where I believe I may have gotten a keylogger is here: http://www.ug zgg.cn/albums/x1/seymourseesmore/currentbearformsize.jpg (WARNING -- LINK LEADS TO A POTENTIAL KEYLOGGER, REMOVE THE SPACE BETWEEN THE "G" and "Z" TO CONTINUE) Hijack This Log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 11:38:41 AM, on 10/16/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16544) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\brsvc01a.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\brss01a.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe C:\DOCUME~1\MATTHE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\clclean.0001 C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Eset\nod32kui.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\avgas.exe C:\PROGRAM FILES\FRAPS\FRAPS.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Eraser\eraser.exe C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Matthew Sidebottom\My Documents\i-hate-keyloggers.exe C:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe C:\Program Files\Dynex Wireless G Enhanced Adapter\WLService.exe C:\Program Files\Dynex Wireless G Enhanced Adapter\WLanCfgG.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\Program Files\Eset\nod32krn.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Creative Labs Shared\Service\CreativeLicensing.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - To be absolutely safe: What do you recommend? Is a reformat/reinstall the only way to be completely sure? The account that could potentially be keylogged is probably worth upwards of $2,000, so I'd rather not lose it to me being dumb and clicking in places that I shouldn't (especially when I don't have a virus scanner). |

Re: World of Warcraft Keylogger
Very quickly, the "i-hate-keyloggers" program is something I downloaded after I became worried that I had a keylogger on my system. It reports to disable to hooks used by keyloggers.
No idea if it actually works, but it seems to be a safe file insofar as the google reviews of it go. |

Re: World of Warcraft Keylogger
Hello msidebottom,
I'm not seeing anything of note in these logs other than undesirable cookies. Let's see if Kaspersky sees anything different. Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/service?chapter=161739400 Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.

Re: World of Warcraft Keylogger
Hi,
Kaspersky is only reporting mIrc which is fine if you installed that yourself. Quote:

Re: World of Warcraft Keylogger
Ok.
![]() To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them: McAfee Site Advisor--free version. The folks there check out websites and based on their findings, rate it as Safe, Unknown, Caution, or Bad. SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.
IESpyAD Zoned Out to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. This severely impairs attempts to infect your system as it basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites. Update, and scan with your onboard Anti Malware and Anti Virus programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released. In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles: PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? by Tony Klein MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER Understanding and Using Firewalls **Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them. ----------------------------------------------------- Follow the list above and the potential for infection will reduce dramatically. |
