Save my Computer
I just graduated from college and since I have been home my computer has started acting up and I don't know why. I recieve popups from WinAntiVirusPro, Jack 9, Broadcaster.com, Myspace crush calculators, celebrity quizzes and that is just the popups. My computer has gotten extremely slow and takes alot longer to boot than it did weeks ago. When I am typing, keys are skipped as if they have not been touched at all. Sometimes when i am on the internet, the blue tool bar at the bottom disappears along with all of the icon on my desktop. The newest stranger to my computer is a buffer overrun that just started. I have tried McAfee and Ad-Aware which have not been successful. Please help me.
Thank you very much!! -Sean I attached the extra.txt and the Panda activescan.txt as well. Re: Save my Computer
Hi EamusCatuli13
Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Please ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T MISS A STEP & PERFORM EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER. ============================== WildTangent - This is an online gaming package that is installed by a number of third party applications and even OEMs, ISPs and AIM. The games aspect of this is really rather cool. The being installed without you asking for it isn't good at all. They collect information about you and your usage. We recommend uninstalling it. From Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, uninstall the following programs, if present, :
============================== If you have not done so already, please enable the viewing of Hidden files From Windows Explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options> View tab.
Locate and delete the following folders, if present:
You can ignore the above if you wish to keep Wildtangent, but we do recommend you remove it ================= Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it: Code:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...ml#post1060606 collect:: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ocemfjft.dll ![]() Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe When finished, it shall produce a log for you, C:\ComboFix.txt. Post that log in your next reply. Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall Additonally, ComboFix will generate a zipped file on your desktop called Submit [Date Time].zip When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture a file to submit for analysis. Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box. A browser will open. Simply follow the instructions to copy/paste/send the requested file. ============================== Open Internet Explorer Click >Tools> Internet Options Then click on Delete cookies, delete Files and clear history ============================================== Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%. ================================== When you ran DSS it should have asked you to let it download Hijackthis and would have put an icon on your desktop if not follow the instructions below Please download HijackThis to your desktop - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Alternate link Make sure you close down EVERY open window and close ALL browser windows. The only thing that should be open is the HijackThis program. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Install" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe
=================== Please copy and paste the logs into your next reply In your next post, please include fresh logs from:

Re: Save my Computer
Hi EamusCatuli13
Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Please ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T MISS A STEP & PERFORM EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER. ================= Upload these files
At the top of the window you should see "File to Upload & scan" and a blank box. Copy and paste the blue text from above into the box. Then click "submit". When it is finished, please copy and paste the information listed under "Service" and "Scanner Results" here. If the site is too busy, upload it here http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html ================= Run a scan with HiJackThis & select/tick the following & click "Fix checked" : O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://www.popcap.com/games/popcaploader_v6.cab Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked. =============================================== If you have not done so already, please enable the viewing of Hidden files From Windows Explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options> View tab.
Locate and delete the following folders, if present:
================= Please Run a scan with Deckard's System Scanner and save the log =============================================== In your next post, please include fresh logs from:

Re: Save my Computer
Hi EamusCatuli13
That file that wouldn't upload should be gone you can check to make sure by navigating to C:\WINDOWS\Temp\0042911188802124mcinst.exe then delete it if you dont recognise it. You may have to boot into safe mode using the following procedure to do so =============================================== Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers. =============================================== Your logs are clean ![]() C:\QooBox\ & C:\Deckard\ should be deleted/removed Combofix can be deleted from the desk top C:\System Volume Information\ is where System Restore's cache is stored. Whatever is in there can't harm you unless you choose to perform a manual restore. Nevertheless, we shall be reseting/clearing the cache in a little while ---------------------- Now that your system is clean, kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein - http://computercops.biz/postlite7736-.html After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved. Last edited by alba; 09-04-2007 at 06:26 AM. |
