I'm running Windows XP and I'm also receiving fake windows security updates. They have taken over my computer. I cannot access the task manager. Everytime I go to the internet, it blanks the page. My desktop is also being changed to red. I've tried following some of the threads and copying those instuctions, but NO LUCK!!
Please help! Thanks, Zmom |

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
I'll be looking for your reply.
This tool will help me more specifically identify the issues, though I have a good idea of what they are already. We'll then get to solving them.

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
Here are the results of main.txt. I uploaded the exta.txt file, but it failed the first time. I found it in a directory under System Scanner called 20070830184421. Let me know if this is not the file you are looking for.
Once again...Thanks! Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
That's what I need to get started, thanks.
Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop. Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool. Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter" and a text file will appear which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
Before we continue, how is your system currently behaving? Desktop background? Internet?

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
It seems to have settled down! I just clicked on a few web pages and I was able to view them. I switched my desktop back to a picture and that seems to be back to normal. I hit control alt delete and I was able to see the task manager! I'd say it's much better!

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
Excellent, I expected that to be the answer from what I saw, but wanted to hear it from you.
Let's continue then....this next part will take some time, but it's designed to help us find remnants which might not be visible to the other tools we've used to this point, as well as plug a possible exploit in the form of outdated Java. Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked O2 - BHO: (no name) - {13197ace-6851-45c3-a7ff-c281324d5489} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {30000273-8230-4dd4-be4f-6889d1e74167} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4e1075f4-eec4-4a86-add7-cd5f52858c31} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {669695bc-a811-4a9d-8cdf-ba8c795f261e} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8674aea0-9d3d-11d9-99dc-00600f9a01f1} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {965a592f-8efa-4250-8630-7960230792f1} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {b8875bfe-b021-11d4-bfa8-00508b8e9bd3} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {ca1d1b05-9c66-11d5-a009-000103c1e50b} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {fc3a74e5-f281-4f10-ae1e-733078684f3c} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [secbpzsccu] C:\WINDOWS\system32\secbpzsccu.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dlrwmzakqg] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dlrwmzakqg.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qzg] C:\WINDOWS\system32\qzg.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pcflaqc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\pcflaqc.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vaiv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vaiv.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [yn] C:\WINDOWS\system32\yn.exe Close HijackThis now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your Java is out of date. Open NOTEPAD.exe and copy/paste all the text in the codebox below into it:
Code:

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
LOL, yes, if you look away, you'll miss the action.
Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you don't have them already:
In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
Thank you very, very much! I really appreciate your help. I will download the suggested software...and make a donation to this site!!
One last question. I heard that I should set up a user account that does not have administrative rights to use when I (or my kid) is online. Is that true? |

Re: Help! Same Virus as many others
Well, it's true to some extent. That scenario is best used to control what the user of the computer can do, rather than what any malware which gets onto the machine can do.
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/com...eraccount.mspx Many modern infections do not care what type of account it is, as they can create their own elevated privileges. This is sort of the underlying theory for some of the way Windows Vista is written. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control You're quite welcome for the help. If you have further questions about account types in the XP OS, please ask the folks in our Windows XP forum. You'll likely get a broader range of responses.
