Re: Constant web browser spawns w/advertisments

Well... I still have the issue of numerous Windows Installer windows popping up every time I invoke an application. Although it started during the infection and/or clearing process, TETONBOB didn't think it is directly related to the infection problem.

Per BOB's advice I posted to the XP Forum but am still waiting on someone.

Reagrds.

Re: Constant web browser spawns w/advertisments

Update:

I went into Windows Event Viewer (Settings -- Control Panel -- Adminstrative Tools -- Computer Management - Event Viewer -- Application).

Within the Event Viewer there are dozens of Warnings and Information entries all pointing to Visio 2003. The Properties of the Information entries all state Visio failed to install.

Tried to remove Visio via Add/Remove programs and removal failed.

Used Hijackthis to remove Visio from the Add/Remove program list (nice tool).

A gent on the XP Forum advised ot remove Visio from the Installer using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. Did that and all seems good.

Rebooted system and all applications seem to run a-okay.

Thank you all very much!

Best regards.

Re: Constant web browser spawns w/advertisments

LOL, that gent was me! Though I sent you over there, I was following with interest. You did the good work of looking in Event Viewer.

Thanks for reporting back here, figgepop! Will move this to Resolved now. You already have my final cleanup and protection instructions.
