Disable Windows Defender

Please disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection, as it may hinder the removal of some entries.

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools>Options.
Scroll down and uncheck Use real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Disable S& D Spybot's Tea Timer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.

Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
In the Mode menu click Advanced mode if not already selected.
Choose Yes at the Warning prompt.
Expand the Tools menu.
Click Resident.
Uncheck the Resident TeaTimer (Protection of overall system settings) active. box.
In the File menu click Exit to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click Options...
*Move the arrow down to Custom CleanUp!
*Put a check next to the following:

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the Temporary Files and uncheck the box for Scan drives for file matching if it’s checked.

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot into safe mode by following the next set of instructions.

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8

Note: Some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" * The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place *

Begin the scan by selecting

If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
Click on then click

* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Comboscan has gone through some changes and has been updated and renamed. Please delete comboscan from your system.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.

To attach a file to a new post, simply

Click the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:

What DSS will do:

create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Did you notice your computer was really slow after installing any new software?

Lets try another online scanner:

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with

Kaspersky WebScanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
- Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  - Extended
- Scan Options:
  - Scan Archives
  - Scan Mail Bases
Click OK & have it scan My Computer
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

No, I haven't installed anything lately. My sis-in-law stayed a few days and when I noticed the computer running slower, I locked it to where only I could get on until I fixed the problem. I do not know what all sites she visited, but I do know she went to a lot of gaming sites, which I can't stand and asked her not to go there. That worked out well,

Sorry for the long delay, I was out of town.

I ran that OTMoveit, and it kept getting locked up at E:\\program files\KaZzA

Yes it is an old drive that I got from a friend and using it as a slave drive on this system.

No, it is not a back up of my main, just a drive I got from a friend.

I ended up using Ashampoo to remove KaZaA from E drive.

Hi Justiss4All,

Your slave drive as I see it has another installation of Windows on it, which I believe you don't use? The slave drive may have some malware left on it, and I would recommend a full reformat. I'm not sure how much stuff you've saved to it, but you can save it either to cd, or transfer it over to your primary drive C:\ . Its best to wipe the hard drive clean and would free up a little more room on it, as the installation of Windows can take up a few Gigabites in space. The choice is yours.

Reset System Restore

To turn off System Restore click Start > Right Click My Computer > Properties. Click the System Restore tab and Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this then Click OK.

Turn on System Restore by Clicking Start. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives." Click Apply, and then OK.

This will create a new Restore Point.

Clear Firefox Cookies

Click Tools -> Options
Click Privacy Tab
Click the "Show Cookies" button
Click the "Remove All Cookies" button, which is at the bottom of the window.
Click Close

Clear IE6 cookies

On the Internet Explorer 6 Tools menu, click Internet Options. The Internet Options box should open to the General tab.
On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. This will delete all the files that are currently stored in your cache [that includes cookies too].
Click OK, and then click OK again.

Microsoft Updates

It is very important that you get all of the critical updates for your Operating System and Internet Explorer. Keeping your OS and browser up to date will help make you less susceptible to attacks by Trojans and viruses. Please go to Microsoft and download all the critical updates to help prevent possible re-infection.

Malware Prevention Tools

These programs configure your computer to prevent known malware-related changes. You can have more than one of these at a time and they take up minimal resources.

SpywareBlaster - Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items. Check regularly for updates.
IE-Spyad - Extract to your desktop and double-click install.bat. Install options #2 and #4. IE-Spyad places more than 4,000 dubious domains in the IE Restricted list, which impairs attempts to infect your system. It prevents any downloads from the sites although you will still be able to connect to them. You can read more about it on it's homepage.
MVPS Hosts File - extract and double-click the mvps.bat file. This will replace your current HOSTS file with one that will restrict known ad sites form serving you unsolicited advertisements, preventing your computer from connecting to those sites.
McAfee SiteAdvisor - helps to warn you before you interact with a dangerous Web site. Works with both IE and Firefox.
SpywareGuard - real-time protection that detects and blocks spyware before it can execute.

Alternative Web Browsers

Using an alternative browser can help prevent malware from being installed without your knowledge, but may not work on all websites.

You're welcome. To format the drive simply right click on my computer, select manage. Then under storage there should be disk management. Right-click on E:\ drive and select Format.

Note: You will lose all the documents/files saved on that drive when you format, so make backups of anything you want to keep

Lets try another online scanner: Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Kaspersky WebScanner Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files. Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: Extended Scan Options: Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases Click OK & have it scan My Computer Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it. I ran that OTMoveit, and it kept getting locked up at E:\\program files\KaZzA Yes it is an old drive that I got from a friend and using it as a slave drive on this system.

The slave drive may have some malware left on it, and I would recommend a full reformat. I'm not sure how much stuff you've saved to it, but you can save it either to cd, or transfer it over to your primary drive C:\ . Its best to wipe the hard drive clean and would free up a little more room on it, as the installation of Windows can take up a few Gigabites in space. The choice is yours. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delete the following Folder indicated in BLUE if it exists. C:\_OTMoveIt --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well done, your logs are clean! There are just a few more things I would like you to do. Reset System Restore To turn off System Restore click Start > Right Click My Computer > Properties. Click the System Restore tab and Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this then Click OK. Turn on System Restore by Clicking Start. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives." Click Apply, and then OK. This will create a new Restore Point. Clear Firefox Cookies Click Tools -> Options Click Privacy Tab Click the "Show Cookies" button Click the "Remove All Cookies" button, which is at the bottom of the window. Click Close Clear IE6 cookies On the Internet Explorer 6 Tools menu, click Internet Options. The Internet Options box should open to the General tab. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. This will delete all the files that are currently stored in your cache [that includes cookies too]. Click OK, and then click OK again. Microsoft Updates It is very important that you get all of the critical updates for your Operating System and Internet Explorer. Keeping your OS and browser up to date will help make you less susceptible to attacks by Trojans and viruses. Please go to Microsoft and download all the critical updates to help prevent possible re-infection. Malware Prevention Tools These programs configure your computer to prevent known malware-related changes. You can have more than one of these at a time and they take up minimal resources. SpywareBlaster - Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items. Check regularly for updates. IE-Spyad - Extract to your desktop and double-click install.bat. Install options #2 and #4. IE-Spyad places more than 4,000 dubious domains in the IE Restricted list, which impairs attempts to infect your system. It prevents any downloads from the sites although you will still be able to connect to them. You can read more about it on it's homepage. MVPS Hosts File - extract and double-click the mvps.bat file. This will replace your current HOSTS file with one that will restrict known ad sites form serving you unsolicited advertisements, preventing your computer from connecting to those sites. McAfee SiteAdvisor - helps to warn you before you interact with a dangerous Web site. Works with both IE and Firefox. SpywareGuard - real-time protection that detects and blocks spyware before it can execute. Alternative Web Browsers Using an alternative browser can help prevent malware from being installed without your knowledge, but may not work on all websites. To format the drive simply right click on my computer, select manage. Then under storage there should be disk management. Right-click on E:\ drive and select Format.
