Pop-ups Pop-ups Pop-ups

Hi guys. I thought the 5 step process got rid of this but unfortunately not. I am getting pop-ups from partyfriends.com 888.com etc as soon as I open my internet explorer and sporatically after that. They don't seem to pop-up when I clode my browser.

I have attached the supplementary.txt file as well as the activescan.txt (from Panda Activescan) as requested in step 2.

The ComboScan.txt file is as follows:

ComboScan v20070212.14 run by MYERSWS on 2007-02-17 at 17:49:29
Computer is in Normal Mode.

Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding.
Please ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this
webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T MISS A STEP & PERFORM EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER.

----------------------------------------

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.

The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear.
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

Please make every effort to reply to my posts in a timely manner. Malware breeds malware and the longer an infection remains on a system, the more
likely additional infections will result.

----------------------------------------

You have a LOP infection which is a cause of pop-ups. It can also affcect your internet connection. For this reason, we must address
this infection first, before we clean the rest of your system.

We got rid of the main part of LOP. Now we go after the rest of the junk.

----------------------------------------

DOWNLOADS

CLEANUP! version 4.52 – TEMP FILE CLEANING

Please download Cleanup! and install it. You will use this later.

Alternative link Cleanup Alt

*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temporary folders and does not make backups.

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Please download AVG Anti Spyware

Use the link at the bottom of the page under "AVG Anti-Spyware Free for Windows"

  1. Install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.
  2. Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch AVG A-S 7.5
  3. On the top of the main screen click Shield
  4. Click the word active to change it to inactive
  5. On the top of the main screen click Update.
  6. Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  7. I also recommend changing the "Update interval" to something more reasonable like 12 hours.

REGISTRY FIX

Download the attached musquie.zip file at the bottom of this post to your desktop. Double click on the zip folder,
then double click on the .reg file within.
Click yes to allow it to merge into your registry.

----------------------------------------

SAFE MODE RE-BOOT

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
5) Login with your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

----------------------------------------

FIXES AND DELETIONS

More files...

I have completed your instructions and am posting the requested files below. Just a note to say that my computer is behaving much better, with no pop-ups apparent (yet anyway). I am surprised that scans are still coming up with infections. It makes me wonder how many types of virus software I need to catch it all.

You have a Keygen, Keylogger and Hacktool on your system. Please let me know if you installed these and if you want to keep them,
bearing in mind that they are open invitations for malware to enter your system.

----------------------------------------

Keygen: A keygen (a portmanteau of "key generator") is a small program that will generate a CD key or serial/registration number for a piece of
software or cryptographic algorithm.

Keygens are made available by software cracking groups for free download on various websites dedicated to software piracy.

Keylogger: Keystroke logging (often called keylogging) is a diagnostic used in software development that captures the user's keystrokes.
It can be useful to determine sources of error in computer systems and is sometimes used to measure employee productivity on certain clerical tasks.
Such systems are also highly useful for law enforcement and espionage—for instance, providing a means to obtain passwords or encryption keys and thus
bypassing other security measures. However, keyloggers are widely available on the internet and can be used by anyone for the same purposes.

Hacktool: Any tool that might be used in planning an attack on a system, developing tools for such an attack, or performing it.

----------------------------------------

CLEAN-OUTS

Please delete the files found in these Quarantine folders. Leave the folders intact:

AVG Quarantine

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5

housecall6.6\Quarantine

----------------------------------------

SAFE MODE RE-BOOT

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
5) Login with your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

----------------------------------------

FIXES AND DELETIONS

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for each one (If they still exist)
(You must kill them one at a time).

[b]

----------------------------------------

Go into HijackThis>>Open Misc Tools>>Open Uninstall Mnager

Highlight xxx

Click Delete This Entry

----------------------------------------

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

----------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (If they still exist, make sure you do not miss any)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Flap coal sign less] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Proxy Support Flap Coal\Hearteggs.exe

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

----------------------------------------

UNHIDE HIDDEN FILES

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

----------------------------------------
Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

P:\Old Comp Files\Downloads\gdivx\GDiVX1.9.5.exe

Latest HJT log

Hi: I followed your latest instructions and am including the latest HJT log results below. If any Keygen, Keylogger and Hacktool is on my system, I want it removed, thanks. I didn't instal any such thing, but I am not the only one with access to this computer.

Things seem to be running smoothly, although when I exit safe mode, I get a error message that "Sample" cannot close (or some such message) and I have to manually end the process. I assume this is a separate issue.

Thanks,
musquie

Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding.
Please ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this
webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T MISS A STEP & PERFORM EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER.

----------------------------------------

These are the instructions for deleting the mentioned programs.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Mirc>>>The Keygen is installed with Mirc. To delete, you would have to uninstall/re-install Mirc. This is yur decision.

----------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (If they still exist, make sure you do not miss any)

C:\Program Files\mIRC>>>Your decision

C:\Nsgov\My Downloads\3in1 combo\Macro Buddy\macrob14_full.exe

O:\My Downloads\Backup Files\CrackSearcher

P:\Old Comp Files\Downloads\Bit Torrent\CrackSearcher.exe ZIP

----------------------------------------

SYSTEM RE-BOOT

Reboot into Normal Mode.

----------------------------------------

FOLLOW-UP

Please let me know how your system is behaving.
