Hello forcifer and Welcome to Tech Support Forum,

Let's start with the following:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

______________________________

Please download the trial version of AVG anti-spyware 7.5from here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
  • Install AVG anti-spyware anti-malware.
  • When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
  • When you run AVG anti-spyware for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
  • The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
  • The program will now go to the main screen.
You will need to update AVG anti-spyware to the latest definition files.
  • On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
  • Click on Start.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close AVG.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
AVG anti-spyware manual updates. Make sure to close AVG anti-spyware before installing the update.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt

Hi forcifer, I am so sorry but the scan above indicates you have a rootkit present.

You have a very serious infection. I can not promise to be able to totally clean your PC. Do Not use this PC for any financial use. If you have used the PC for financial use since you were infected I suggest you contact the financial institutions and let them know your accounts might have been compromised.
You may wish to reformat and start over. I can try to clean it if you wish to go that route. Let me know.

Lets go ahead and do the rootkit scan though.

Download Gmer from here:
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip
  • Disconnect from internet and close running programs.
  • There is a small chance this app may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double click gmer.exe
  • Let the gmer.sys driver load if asked.
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...say Ok.
  • If no warning....
  • Click "rootkit" tab and click "scan"
  • Once done click "copy"
  • Open Notepad and hit "ctrl+v" to paste log.
  • Reconnect to internet and post log please.

Sorry about GMER. Let's see what happens with this.

Download
http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rustbfix.exe
...and save it to your desktop.

Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly hereafter be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of these logfiles along with a new HijackThis log.

Hi forcifer,

You got rid of the rootkit! Please do the following:

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Click on Start>Run and type Services.msc then hit Ok.
Scroll down and find the service called:
Microsoft authenticate service (MsaSvc)
When you find it, double-click on it.
In the next window that opens, click the 'Stop' button.
Then change the 'Startup Type:' to 'Disabled'.
Now press Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
O2 - BHO: 888Bar - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\{3CB58F01-0510-1033-0415-051006200001}\888.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: 888Bar - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\{3CB58F01-0510-1033-0415-051006200001}\888.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [explorer] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstall.exe
O23 - Service: Microsoft authenticate service (MsaSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msasvc.exe (file missing)

Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them (if they exist)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstall.exe<=file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msasvc.exe<=file

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your next post.

Post (reply) with a fresh HijackThis log and the Kapersky log.

When I see this infection, I give the warning about possible Identity Theft.
=============================
I urge you to protect your personal information

Do not use this system for any transactions until you are clean.

Here are a couple of links which may provide you with additional valuable information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451

If You do any online banking, ebay/paypal purchases, any other sensitive online transactions...:

You are strongly advised to do the following immediately:

1. Disconnect infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.

2. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

3. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

=======================

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\Documents and Settings\Zahner Family\loadadv642.exe<=file
C:\Documents and Settings\Zahner Family\Local Settings\Temp\installer.exe<=file
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.dll<=file

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Empty your recycle bin.

Please run Kapersky again and post the results with another hijackthis log please.

Hi forcifer,

That one file ibm0001.dll is being stubborn. Let's go ahead and run AVG anti-spyware which you installed in a previous step.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-spyware, and run a full scan.
  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on Settings
    • Under How to scan all boxes should be checked
    • Under Unwanted Software all boxes should be checked
    • Under What to scan select Scan every file
    • Click on Ok
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan the machine.
If AVG Anti-spyware finds anything, it will pop up a notification. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says Perform action on all infections and put a checkmark in the box next to Create encrypted backup, then choose clean and click Ok.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save Report.
  • Click Save Report button
  • Save the report to your Desktop
Close AVG Anti-spyware and Reboot in Normal Mode.

I thought you had already tried by my instructions in post 11. I thought AVG anti-spyware would delete it which is why I asked you to run it.

Hi Forcifer,

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - (no file)
Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

The AVG anti-spyware log shows "No action taken." for all the files in the log your posted. Did you allow it to clean them?

Please post another report so I can make sure that the infected files were cleaned along with a fresh hijackthis log.
