Hi...
Please download Combofix: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe and save to the desktop. 1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts. 2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt. 3. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log. Notes: * Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang. * Do not proceed with the rest of the fix if you fail to run combofix * Disable script blocking if you have NAV installed so it will not interfere with the fix. Trojan Hunter has been reported to detect combofix as Worm.Qiv.100. Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (This is Ewido 4.0 renamed. If you already have Ewido installed, please update to AVG Anti-Spyware which has a special "clean driver" for removing persistent malware) 1. After download, double click on the file to launch the install process. 2. Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next". 3. Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree". 4. Accept default installation path: C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, click "Next", then click "Install". 5. After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray. 6. The main "Status" menu will appear. Select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'. 7. Then right click on AVG Anti-Spyware in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows". 8. Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet. Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware as follows: 1. Launch AVG Anti-Spyware, click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
3. Click "Complete System Scan" to start. 4. When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine. IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button? 5. Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select "Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20060620-142816.txt. Save to your desktop. A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\ 6. Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done, reboot normally and submit the log report in your next response. Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning. Doing so may hamper AVG Anti-Spyware's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection. AVG Anti-Spyware is free for 30 days and all the extensions of the full version will be activated. After the 30 day trial, active protection extensions will be deactivated and the program will turn into a feature-limited freeware version that you can can continue to use as an on-demand scanner or you may purchase a license to use the full version. Post back a new HJT,AVG and ComboFix.txt

Download the LOP uninstaller http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/lopremover.exe. Close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.
When it is finished restart your computer. Have "Hijack This" fix all the following items in the list below by placing a check in the appropriate boxes.Confirm that you have only the listed ones checked, then press <Fix checked> and Close HJT. Hi
Many thanks for that, I still cant launch my Browser, the Help & Search or the System Restore (they start to run pop up for about 1/2 a second then the window closes down again), have these been removed from the registry? I really appreciate your help with what you have done for me, is Kaspersky AV a lot better than Norton AV? and what Spyware should we install when we are ok with Ad-aware SE Personal. Again many thanks |

Sound very much like you now need to run your rescue disc to chck for corrupted file. The XP forum can help you with that...I would go for AGV anti virus...
How Do I Protect My Computer Against Future Malware . NOTE:You may have already taken some of these steps. Update your anti-virus software & Windows operating system on a daily or weekly basis. Microsoft also distributes updates to its operating systems. These updates fix security holes or other problems that make a computer susceptible to security breaches. How to update your Windows operating system Know What You're Installing Check the source. To avoid malware, make sure your software comes from a reputable source. Be particularly suspicious of sponsored software (software that relies on advertising) or software that claims to speed up your Internet connection. Use Custom Install. If you feel comfortable with software installation, you can choose Custom Install (as opposed to Typical Install). Custom Install allows you to select only the software components you wish to install, and leave out others (such as potential spyware). Modify Security Settings (Internet Explorer 6) To reduce the risk of installing malware, you can set Internet Explorer to high security mode. To do so: Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools > Internet Options…. On the Internet Options screen, select the Security tab, then select the Internet icon (if it is not already selected). Under Security level for this zone, click Default Level. Set the slider to High. Note: You may have to lower the security level to view certain Web sites. Next, select the Trusted Sites icon. Under Security level for this zone, click Default Level. Set the slider to Medium. Click Apply, then OK to save the changes. Some Recommended Protection Programs Each tool has its own strengths for identifying and removing specific types of malware. To thoroughly check your computer, its recommend that you use more than one malware removal program. Don't forget to back up your data files before starting a scan! Some available programs are: Ad-Aware SpyBot Search & Destroy Now that you are clean, to help protect your system I recommend that you get the following free programs: SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing. SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware . IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. WinPatrol to monitor any changes that programs make to the registry. If you do not have a firewall, here is a free one for personal use: ZoneAlarm Zone Labs by Check Point Software Technologies - Home/Office Products Zone Labs by Check Point Software Technologies - Product Comparison Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the Rogue/Suspect Spyware List. It will save you a lot of grief, as well as money if you are thinking of purchasing. Here is the link: Spyware Warrior: Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites If you want to know just how effective your anti-spyware program is, or how well any of the "rogue" programs listed at the above link work, check this for an independent comparison of several anti-spyware programs: Spyware Warrior: Anti-Spyware Testing (Guide) Here is a helpful article: "So how did I get infected in the first place?" CastleCops So how did I get infected in the first place? Protect your PC - PC Help Forum.com - Computer Tech Support Let us know if we have not resolved your problem. Otherwise, you are good to go. I think my registry is corrupt and need to repair it
Is there any trustworthy software I can download to help me fix this problem, I have a XP recovery disk but dont know if this can be used or if it can how? I have tried the microsoft fix of navigating to the restore files and copying the registry files from there, but the only restore files that are there are the corrupt ones. Many Thanks Mark |
