google redirects/ibm300002.exe error and cant run trend micro w/o error

when i google something the i click on the result i get redirect to a site totally unrelated.

at start up i get this ibm30000.exe file not found error

i believe the last time i got trend micro to work it removed the ibm**.exe error
however right now i can not get trend micro to download its files without error
so i can not get a scan. i went to the other 3 sites listed in the instructions and performed the scans. all five steps were performed in order.

here is the HJT log: thank you

google redirects/ibm300002.exe error and cant run trend micro w/o error

This is a repost as per instruction. Have previously followed microbells 5 steps to a tee.

Even went thru AVG scan (after i saw a similar complaint posted after me)

Still get the IBM300002.exe error at startup. can not run trend micro sucessfully. the download stops or the scan goes into a loop

the google redirect is still present.

here is the current HJS log

Hello atcgman,

Download AlcanShorty from here.
  • Click the download button below and agree to download the fix.
  • Download Alcanshorty to your desktop.
  • DoubleClick alcanshorty_en.exe and click install
  • This will create a new folder on your desktop called alcanshorty_en
  • Open that folder and doubleclick Run.bat
  • Once the fix starts, your icons and desktop will disappear, this is normal.

Make sure you have a working internet connection. In case your firewall gives an alert, don't block it,
because alcanshorty needs to download some additional files to let the tool run properly.

  • Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK.
  • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

-----------------------------------

I see no evidence of an AntiVirus program on your system. This must be resolved. Here are two very good free Antivirus products which are available:Select one of these, or another of your choice. Download, install, update definitions, and run a full system scan.

-----------------------------------

Perform an online scan using Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Check Now & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and wants you to buy the program for removal as we will address this later.
  • Click on see report. Then click Save report

Please include the following in your next reply:

Hello atcgman,
Quote:
AVG was installed and run prior to your reply. My PC that messed up?
An active Anti Virus program is essential in this day in age to help protect your system. Why don't I see AVG in the running processes?

---------------------------------

Open Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types Click OK.

---------------------------------

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to and delete the following files by right clicking the file and selecting 'Delete':

C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\ mprocessor.exe
C:\WINDOWS\backup\T\ 50413000.DAT

**If the above resist deletion, boot into Safe Mode to delete.

---------------------------------

Clear Internet Explorer Cookies: (you do not need to be connected to the internet to perform this)
Launch Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Delete Cookies

---------------------------------

How is your system behaving now?

The purpose of an AntiVirus is to have it monitoring your system at all times. Please enable it at startup and use it, or we are both wasting our time here.

As you have Windows ME, we are quite limited in the tools available to us to try to ferret out the source of the infection.

Download and install Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4
  • Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available.
  • Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left.
  • Click the Immunize button on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update.
  • Click 'Check for Problems' and fix all the entries, which are indicated in RED.

Download Adaware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Please let me know what these programs found on your system.

Hello atcgman,

You can still get by with Windows ME provided you don't get hit with any of the newest malware that's out there. Norton Go Back could be a 'life saver' for you. When it is feasible for you, I would suggest a new system with Windows XP as your current system is likely too outdated to run Windows XP smoothly.

The results of your Spybot scan were most helpful.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...Fixwareout.exe
  • Save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Click "Next", then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin: Please follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer: Please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load and this is normal.
Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), please post the contents of that report here.

Please let me know if the redirects have ceased.

Hello atcgman,

We're getting there.

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out these instructions.

It is IMPORTANT that perform everything in the order listed.

***************************************************

Download WinPFind and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder. Do Not run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

------------------------------------

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ CSHEY.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ DMSJG.EXE

------------------------------------

Inside C:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more. Once the Scan is Complete it will make a txt file (log) of what was found. Save that log and post it here.

Restart one more time back into Normal Mode, run a scan with HijackThis and save the log to post here along with the WinPFind log.

thank you again i am seeing prgoress. the google redirect seems to have been fixied.

here are the results of WinPfind

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows sometimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hi atcgman,

These logs are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links.

For Windows ME..we MUST create a new restore point now as Windows ME will not create one automatically until the computer has been on for 10 hours or 24 hours has passed. To create a new restore point follow the procedure below.
  • Click the Start button.
  • Point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  • Choose Create a restore point, and then click Next.
  • In the Restore point description box, type a name for your restore point, and then click Next.
  • Click OK

Reset hidden/system files and folders

Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View tab.
*Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
*Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

-----------------------------------------

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:

Download SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items .

Download Spyware Guard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.

Download IE-SPYAD.EXE to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. IE/Spyad places more than 4000 dubious websites and domains in the IE Restricted list. This severely impairs attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites. This is a self-extracting .ZIP file, and save it to your desktop. Once downloaded, double-click on it to extract the files inside (default dir is C:\IE-SPYAD)
From within the folder, double-click install.bat
Select Option #2 - Install the new IE-SPYAD list, by typing 2
Then return to the main menu.
Select option #4 - Add the old porn sites domain, by typing 4

Download Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Click 'Check for Problems' and fix all the entries, which are indicated in RED.

Download Adaware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Update and scan with these programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles:

**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected will reduce dramatically.

**Please respond one more time and let us know if we can consider this thread resolved.

Reid,

I still cant get Trend Micro past step #1 in the scan process.

I have disabled the MS system restore on this PC since I believed the Roxio Go Back were not playing well together ( freezes, etc) What shall I do?

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.

( ie , "probably")

Anyway still cant run Trend Micro scan w/o error in step 1
The IBM00003.exe still appears after reboot/start
