Virus and browser problems (log included)
Hey all,
When I try to login to certain websites, especially my AOL webmail, I'm getting a message that says the security certificate is either expired or not yet valid. It does not do this on my desktop. I click yes to proceed anyway, but the webmail page just keeps reloading. I never had these issues prior to the virus problem. I get the security certificate message on several sites, all reputable like ESPN, AOL, etc, but only AOL seems to be having the automatic reloading problem. Here's the list of viruses I found: ibm00003.exe, Trojan.Goldun, Trojan.Anserin, Downloader.Trojan, W32.Mota.B@mm I bought Norton's Internet Security and thought I had cleaned it up, but the computer just isn't acting right. I get the "Cannot find C:/....ibm00003.exe" error on startup and as I said earlier, my browser is acting strange. HJT log below....thanks in advance! thanks for the response. I ran Windows update and it told me to d/l SP2 so I'm doing that.
I figured out the security certificate problem, but now I have another browser problem....it keeps reloading cached pages even when I clear all my files and visit an updated page. It'll show me what the page looked like at 4 pm instead. So here's what you asked for: Diagnostic Report (1.5.0545.0): ----------------------------------------- WGA Data--> Validation Status: Genuine Windows Product Key: *****-*****-GD6GR-K6DP3-4C8MT Windows Product Key Hash: s2kt66ZJWfV4nS1wFD5F9bxTSDw= Windows Product ID: 55277-OEM-2111907-00102 Windows Product ID Type: 2 Windows License Type: OEM SLP Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010300.0.0.hom ID: bee7a19b-f4b4-49f4-889a-504e3549755a Is Admin: Yes AutoDial: No Registry: 0x0 WGA Version: Registered, 1.5.540.0 Signed By: Microsoft Validation Diagnostic: Resolution Status: N/A System Scan Data--> Scan: Complete Cryptography: Complete Notifications Data--> Cached Result: 0 File Exists: Yes Version: 1.5.540.0 WgaTray.exe Signed By: Microsoft WgaLogon.dll Signed By: Microsoft OGA Data--> Office Status: 100 Office Diagnostics: Browser Data--> Proxy settings: http=localhost:8080 User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32) Default Browser: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe Download signed ActiveX controls: Prompt Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Disabled Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Allowed Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: Disabled Allow scripting of Internet Explorer Webbrowser control: Disabled Active scripting: Allowed Script ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting: Allowed File Scan Data--> Other data--> Office Details: <GenuineResults><MachineData><UGUID>bee7a19b-f4b4-49f4-889a-504e3549755a</UGUID><Version>1.5.0545.0</Version><OS>5.1.2600.2.00010300.0.0.hom</OS><PKey>*****-*****-*****-*****-4C8MT</PKey><PID>55277-OEM-2111907-00102</PID><PIDType>2</PIDType><SID>S-1-5-21-1060284298-1202660629-1957994488</SID><SYSTEM><Manufacturer>Dell Computer Corporation</Manufacturer><Model>Inspiron 8100 </Model></SYSTEM><BIOS><Manufacturer>Dell Computer Corporation</Manufacturer><Version>A04</Version><SMBIOSVersion major="2" minor="3"/><Date>20010913******.******+***</Date><SLPBIOS>Dell System,Dell Computer,Dell System,Dell System</SLPBIOS></BIOS><HWID>6DF03A07018400CE</HWID><UserLCID>0409</UserLCID><SystemLCID>0409</SystemLCID><TimeZone>Eastern Standard Time(GMT-05:00)</TimeZone></MachineData> <Software><Office><Result>100</Result><Products><Product GUID="{911B0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0050048383C9}"><LegitResult>100</LegitResult><Name>Microsoft Word 2002</Name><Ver>10</Ver><Val>BC50E7AED8CD7C4</Val><Hash>lPRNS2byAskGers7I+UOldtXqsc=</Hash><Pid>54189-OEM-1691891-73410</Pid></Product></Products></Office></Software></GenuineResults> |

It would have been better to install SP2 after we cleaned you out...never mind its done now....
Step 1: Download and install Ewido Anti-Spyware v4.0 1. After download, double click on the file to launch the install process. 2. Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next". 3. Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree". 4. Accept default installation path: C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0, click "Next", then click "Install". 5. After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch ewido by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray. 6. The main "Status" menu will appear. Select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'. 7. Then right click on ewdio in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows". 8. Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
Step 2: Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". Step 3: Scan with Ewido as follows: 1. Launch Ewido, click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
3. Click "Complete System Scan" to start. 4. When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine. IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button? 5. Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select "Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20060620-142816.txt. Save to your desktop. A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\Reports\ 6. Exit Ewido when done and submit the log report in your next response. . Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while Ewido is scanning. If Explorer or other programs are open during the scan that means certain files will also be in use. Some malware will insert itself and hide in areas that are "protected" by Windows when the files are being used. This can hamper Ewido's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection. Note: If Ewido "crashes" or "hangs" during the scan, try scanning again by doing this: 1. Scan one sector of the system at a time by using the "Custom Scan" feature. To do this select Scanner > Custom Scan and click on Add drive/directory/file. Browse to C:\Windows > System, add this folder to the list and click on "Start Scan". When the scan is complete, repeat the Custom Scan but this time, browse to and add the System32 folder. Then keep repeating this procedure until all your folders have been scanned. Make sure you include the Documents & Settings folder. 2. If this still does not help, then turn the ADS scanner off while making a Custom Scan. To do this select Scanner > Scan Settings and untick "Scan in NTFS Alternate Data Streams". Then repeat the steps above for performing a Custom Scan.

Please download The Avenger to your Desktop and unzip it.
Copy all the text contained in the code box below ( including the words "files to delete" ) by highlighting it and right clicking and selecting "Copy" Quote:
The Avenger will restart your computer. (if the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.) When you have rebooted, a black command window briefly opens on your desktop, this is normal. A logfile will be created that records all actions that The Avenger performed. This log file is saved to C:\avenger.txt. The deleted files will be backed up and saved to C:\avenger\backup.zip. Once your computer has rebooted, please post back the contents of C:\avenger.txt, a new Hijack This log. After the reboot, Open hijackthis, scan and place a check mark next to any of the following that remain and click the "Fix Checked" button. Yes it will do the same or you can.....
Run Disk Cleanup Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup" Please make sure the following are checked: -- Downloaded Program Files -- Temporary Internet Files -- Recycle Bin -- Temporary Files Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you. Have "Hijack This" fix all the following items in the list below by placing a check in the appropriate boxes.Confirm that you have only the listed ones checked, then press <Fix checked> and Close HJT. O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\System32\tmp_grn.dll Open Windows Explorer and delete the following highlighted file/s C:\WINDOWS\System32\tmp_grn.dll Reboot and post a new log please.
