Problem with w32.myzor.fk@yf
Sorry, I'm kind of new at this...Well, after running a shady exe file, which is one of the stupidest things I have ever done...basically whenever I open IE, a homepage opens that says download this antivirus software because I have w32.myzor.fk@yf. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that the software that IE wanted me to download was spyware itself. Anyways, what do I need to do about this? Thank you for all your help in advance. You guys rock.

Actually, I think I might have solved the problem by running various anti virus programs, and there definitely is a noticeable difference in performance. But just to make sure....

By renaming HijackThis, we have exposed the infections present, along with the other entries I had already seen. No, you haven't screwed anything up, but please, if I'm to help you, wait for and follow my instructions. I'm pretty good at this stuff.
Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not (while in Safe Mode) be available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I see you have Ewido already. Please update it's definitions, and run a scan where I have placed it in this fix. Run Ewido
Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet. (Not Recommended for XP64). *WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click Start->Run - type SERVICES.MSC & then click on the OK button
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 MyWay Viewpoint Manager (also Viewpoint Toolbar if present) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2f672dd5.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\2f672dd5.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [2f672dd5.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\Weidenbaum\Local Settings\Application Data\2f672dd5.exe O20 - Winlogon Notify: winmfu32 - winmfu32.dll (file missing) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. Delete the following if they exist: C:\WINDOWS\system32\2f672dd5.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Weidenbaum\Local Settings\Application Data\2f672dd5.exe C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 C:\Program Files\MyWaySA C:\Program Files\Viewpoint --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool. Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. You will be prompted : " Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter. The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question " Replace infected file?" by typing Y and hit Enter. A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode. The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: (C:rapport.txt) or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: Click "Options..." Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!" Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.. Do NOT Reboot/logoff when prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web> Now, Uncheck Everything and delete if present:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
Restart in normal mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan ** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then post the following logs in your next reply... C:\rapport.txt (log from the tool) Ewido log Panda log Hijackthis log VundoFix log

Let's hack at this quickly.....I need a bit more information before we continue. I'll stay online until we get rolling again.
Create an uninstall list:

Well, I thought I'd catch you before you went offline...no worries. Please perform this fix, and include in your next reply the Uninstall list I asked for in my previous post. Get the Uninstall list after you perform this fix, please.
Before begining the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have attached a file to this post - kill.zip Download this file to your desktop. Double click on the zip folder, then double click on the reg file within. Click yes to allow it to merge into your registry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: Cowabanga by OIN Winantivirus2006 Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE 1.4.2_03 Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE 1.4.2_06 J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked O2 - BHO: (no name) - {268EA422-6D1A-4617-B96D-2E9A9AB20DC7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnl.dll (file missing) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to Start>Run then copy and paste, or type the following, then press Enter: regsvr32 /u occache.dll Delete these if present: c:\windows\downloaded program files\gdnUS2339.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Andy\Local Settings\Application Data\2f672dd5.exe C:\Program Files\Cowabanga C:\WINDOWS\system32\stera.exe Go to Start>Run then copy and paste, or type the following, then press Enter: regsvr32 occache.dll --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart in normal mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open Hijack This and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please return with results from: Kaspersky HJT Uninstall list How is your system behaving now, please?

Alright, I got the results, and BTW my computer has been running fine. I did kind of run into some problems though; i couldn't uninstall any of the Java Runtime stuff, oh and btw in the previous step with SmitFraudFix, when I tried to delete the trusted zone, nothing really happened. It just said "restore trusted zone? y/n" so I hit no and went on. Hopefully I didn't do anything wrong.

Sorry, I forgot that the Javas don't like to uninstall in safe mode. Were you able to uninstall the other programs, and delete all the files and folders?
The older versions are a security risk, as malware writers exploit the weaknesses in it's code. Let's try this way. Uninstalling Java:
--------------------------------------------------- I see no evidence of an AntiVirus program on your system. This must be resolved. Here are two very good free Antivirus products which are available:Select one of these, or another of your choice. Download, install, update definitions, and run a full system scan. --------------------------------------------------- Download IE-SpyAD - Extract the contents to a new folder From within the folder, double-click install.bat Select Option #2 - Install the new IE-SPYAD list. Then return to the main menu. Select option #4 - Add the old porn sites domain The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one that will restrict known ad sites form serving you unsolicited advertisements. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is the IP of your local computer.
Download SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items Let me know how all that goes. Post a new HJT log, please.

Keep Ewido. It's a great second line scanner, which you can update into the future after it's trial times out in 30 days. It will still remove. All that's lost is the real time protection, windows startup and auto updates.
Keep CleanUp. I run it on my systems a few times a week to keep things tidy. Delete VundoFix and SmitfraudFix. If there's something I missed, let me know and I'll advise. Some of this info will be repetitive, but some is not: Well done. Your logs are clean. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Reset hidden/system files and folders
Create a new System Restore point
Please ensure that you have already patched your system against the recent WMF exploit. Go to this page to get the KB912919 patch. Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use: In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
