virus that creates popups- log posted

okay, i have an annoying virus (i assume) that brings up popup ads, usually casinos and adultfriendfinder. it also makes random popups saying that my computer is infected with malware and when i click ok it takes me to the product page of malwarewipe or pesttrap (or pest-someting). there is also a little icon in the system tray that randomly comes up every once in a while (every 15-20 minutes) and tells me im infected with a worm or trojan and to click the icon to fix it, and it also takes me to the product page of malwarewipe or pesttrap or things of that nature. im sorry i cant get a little more specific, i will record what the bubbles say when they come up again if its necessary. thanks for any help in advance. here is my HijackThis log:

Hello and welcome to TSF

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option. Please do NOT change any of those settings until we finish the fixing process.

Please download the trial version of Ewido anti-malware from here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
  • Install Ewido anti-malware.
  • When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
  • When you run Ewido for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
  • The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
  • The program will now go to the main screen.
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
  • Click on Start.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close Ewido.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
Ewido manual updates. Make sure to close Ewido before installing the update.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : " Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question " Replace infected file?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: (C:rapport.txt) or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Also, it seems that the following address is a proxy server to your internet connection:
172.16.1.2:8080
Do you want it to be your proxy server?

In addition, please tell me whether you have installed Task Manager Lite in purpose.

Hello again. Feel well!
Ok, your logs are much better.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Please disable SpywareDoctor by doing the following:
  • From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
  • Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

It is true that this tool is important to your protection, but it also won't let us fix your PC now. After we are done and your computer is clean, you may enable it.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).
Make sure you log into Safe Mode under your usual account, the one you use in Normal Mode!

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearc...p=ZCxdm238YYUS
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Workstation Service] explore.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Workstation Service] explore.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Workstation Service] explore.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Windows Workstation Service] explore.exe

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Please go Start->Run and type regsvr32 /u occache.dll. Click Enter.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED if they still exist:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\PreUninstallHL.exe
c:\windows\downloaded program files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.15.inf
explore.exe - Please search for this filename. Delete only the file that is spelled explore.exe, not anything else!

Please download the attached regfix.zip file and save it to your desktop. Extract the regfix.reg file and double-click on it. Click Yes to merge the file with the registry.

Please go to FireFox. Then, go to Tools->Options. Then, click the Privacy button, and under Cookies click the Clear button.
Please make sure you remember your passwords on all sites over the internet, since they won't be automatically remembered until the next time you input them.

Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  1. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  2. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
  3. If it is not visible, click on 'Switch to Classic View' in the left pane of the Control Panel or 'Other Control Panel Options'
  4. Please find the Update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  5. If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  6. After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  7. Under the Advanced Tab, click <Applet> tag support and select the browser(s) you are using.
  8. Under "Temporary Internet Files", click the Delete Files button.
  9. There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked
    • Downloaded Applets
    • Downloaded Applications
    • Other Files
  10. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  11. Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Click Scan Now
  3. Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Click on see report. Then click Save report
Please post that log in your next reply.

Now give us a new HijackThis log, along with Panda ActiveScan’s log, so we can make sure your system is clean.

Hello again. You are welcome :) Still improving, but not perfect yet ;)

Now Please go, in Internet Explorer, to Tools->Internet Options. Then, under Temporary Internet files, click on Delete Cookies... button.

Reboot your system.

Hello Gary and you are welcome (again :D).
I have instructed you to disable Spyware Doctor, and apparently it hasn't been disabled. Please do it again, and make sure it is disabled this time:
  • From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
  • Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

Make sure it's disabled, and then run the regfix again, and afterwards another Panda ActiveScan.
I will need it's log.

We are very close to get you clean :)

Hello again!
Ok, this is hopefully the last time we deal with those registry values.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Please boot into Safe Mode, and disable Spyware Doctor if it's running.

Click START…RUN…Type in regedit. Make sure just "My Computer" is showing in the left pane and click..FILE….EXPORT…and save a copy some were in case you make a mistake. Now navigate to the following keys by clicking the + sign next to each category to expand them. Continue doing so until you've reached the file/folder/entry I highlighted in RED Right click and select 'delete'.

hkey_classes_root\clsid\ {9AFB8248-617F-460d-9366-D71CDEDA3179}

hkey_classes_root\appid\ ZangoToolbar.DLL

If the above registry key is giving you problems deleting, right click on it and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Reboot into Normal

Please scan again with Panda ActiveScan and provide a new log here.

Good Luck! :)
