WHat's wrong with it?

Hi,
I want to do clean my CPU because it's not working properly. Often, some of my programs just stop working without reason and want to close automatically. I will be pleased to have some help to fix this.

Let's try disabling some startup programs to see if it helps.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

it's better.. but I still have some problems with Internet explorer. It closes sometimes for any good reasons. And I also had a e-mail saying that there's maybe a problem with the rundll32.exe because I have twice this file in my log. C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE and C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe.
This problem is the result of a virus called Backdoor.lastdoor.

When I go in system32 folder, I only see this file : C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe. The other one isn't visible. I've tried to get rid of it by removing the rundll32.exe from the registry key :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices.. but the file wasn't there.

So maybe I have this virus still working in my CPU and I can't find the way to smash it. Maybe there's another solution?

Let's run some additional scans.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you might get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on start update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ to update manually.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...howtutorial=61 ).

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Run Ewido now:
* Click on scanner and then Settings. Under 'What to scan' select 'Scan every file' and hit OK.
* Click on 'Complete System Scan' and the scan will begin.
* While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose 'Remove', then put a check next to 'Perform action with all infections' in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named 'Save report'.
* Click 'Save report'. Save it to your desktop.

Restart your computer to get back to Normal Mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

* Click on 'Scan your PC' button. There should be a popup - if you have a pop-up blocker, make sure it's not blocking it.
* Click 'Check Now' & a pop-up window will appear.
* Enter your Country, State and E-mail Address & click 'Scan Now' - begin downloading Panda's ActiveX controls (8 MB size).
* Begin the scan by selecting My Computer.
* If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Ignore any entry it finds (since it wants you to buy the program for removal) as we will address this later.
* Click on see report. Then click Save report.
* Post that log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log and the Ewido report you saved earlier.

Thanks for helping again. I did follow your instructions. It's better but I still loose internet explorer and messenger sometimes. When it happen, the processor of msnmsgr.exe goes up around 99... and I have to shut it down. Explorer just close itself and ask me if I want to send a report. I send you my new hijackthis log and Ewido, but I couldn't save the Panda log.. maybe it's because it didn't find any viruses. Maybe you can just have a look..

Let's try running an online virus scanner to see if it can pick anything up:

Make sure you turn off any antivirus programs you have running while performing the online scan below. Using Internet Explorer, run a virus scan at http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Click on 'Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner' and install the ActiveX component from Kaspersky. Click Yes and it will begin downloading the latest definition files. Once that's done, click on 'Scan Settings' and make sure the following are selected:

Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
- Extended

Scan Options:
- Scan Archives
- Scan Mail Bases

Click OK. Now under select a target to scan, select 'My Computer'. It will start and scan your system. The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Now click on the 'Save as Text' button. Save the file to your desktop. Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

When you say that Internet Explorer crashes and MSN Messenger uses 99% resources, are you still online? I want you to use a different browser and see if it disconnects you from the internet when Messenger shoots up to 99%.

Let's see if the system file checker can find anything:

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

I did what you asked me about the system restore and since that, I don't have any msn messenger or explorer trouble.. but when I did have, I was still online. I've choose Mozilla firefox as an alternative to explorer to test if it disconnect but the trouble didn't happened yet. I also check for the windows scan you asked me, but I can't complete it 'cause it asks me to put the Pro version of XP to copy some DLL files and I don't have it. I don't know why it asked me the Pro, initially, I've installed the Home version..
