Ok, good. So all we're left with is the sound issue after your download of the updated Java.

When you downloaded your Sun Java, did you go directly to the site, or did you click on Update from within your original Sun Java?

Would you mind giving me this list?

Open HijackThis
*Click on the "Configure" button on the bottom right
*Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
*Click on the Box that says "Open Uninstall Manager"
*Click on the button "Save list"
Please copy and past the List from the notebook here.

Ok, Shirley. Let's try uninstalling and reinstalling the Sun Java.

Go to your Add/Remove panel and uninstall:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7

Reboot your system and try downloading it again.

Let me know how that goes.

Hi Shirley,

Sorry, but I want to make sure:

Are all of those indeed, checked?

Hello Shirley,

I'm out of ideas here. I would suggest posting this latest problem in the Windows XP section of this forum and see if any of the experts there can help with this.

Let them know you've been cleared by the HijackThis forum and be as clear with them as you can. Tell them that after updating your Sun Java, you have no sound when viewing webpages and that these boxes are checked:

Downloaded Applets
Downloaded Applications
Other Files

My System

Just skimmed what was posted here...but did you check Internet Explorer (that's assuming the program you use) to see if sounds was unchecked or not? Go into Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet Options->Advanced tab and scroll down to Multimedia. Make sure Play sounds in web pages is checked. OK out and restart Internet Explorer to see if the sounds work.

Hi Shirley,

Nothing we had you fix would cause this problem. If you have sound working fine everywhere but your webpages, then it is highly doubtful CleanUp deleted anything needed.

It sounds as if there may be a conflict with the newer version of your Sun Java and whatever sound card or driver you may be using. The experts in the Windows XP section should be able to help figure this out.

Here's an idea. If you followed Deckard's instructions in the order he gave them to you, then you would have cleared your System Restore prior to downloading the updated Java--which means we may be able to go back to the time before you downloaded Java.

Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>

In the drop down box you will see System Restore, click on that to open it.

There should be a green dot next to 'Restore my computer to an earlier time', click 'Next'
In the left panel you will see a calendar. On the right will be a box listing a time and date--please tell me what is listed there.

Hello Ried,
The system restore has 2 dates Sat and today. Saturday was the day that i flushed system restore and i did do it in sequence just like i was told. These are the restore points.....For Sat.17
5:31:57PM System Check point
5:38:56 PM Removed J2SE Runtime Eviroment 5.0 update 4
5:45:15 PM Installed 5.0 update 7

there are some more but I think this is is the one you would like to see as the others are after i installed the newer version of sun java, and i think that there is a conflict with the new Java and my sound also.

thanks nana

Nice job, Shirley.

Restore to this time and date: 5:31:57PM System Check point. Follow the instructions I gave you earliet to access System Restore and simply follow the on screen prompts.

Please let me know if it resolved the web page sound issue.

Sometimes it will say it couldn't, but does do some restoring. What version of J2SE Runtime Eviroment is showing in your Add/Remove panel?

By any chance, does your sound work now on webpages?

I'll be around for another hour.

Ok, let's try to narrow this down and see if it truly is the Sun Java causing the difficulties.

Go into the Add/Remove panel and uninstall J2SE Runtime Eviroment.

Reboot.

Do you now have sound on your webpages?
