Moving files from a once-hijacked PC to a new PC
Hi all,
Back in December, the wonderful folks here assisted me in resolving some issues with my PC. Well, it's time to move on to a brand spanking new PC and I'm concerned about moving files from this one to the new one. See, I don't think I ever resolved all of the issues with this machine, but once it started working well enough, well, I stopped dealing with it. Do you have any advice about moving files? I wouldn't want to infect or otherwise harm the new PC. To be honest, I don't think I ever knew what, specifically, was wrong with the computer. It all started because I could not update and run Adaware. Thank you kindly for your time. Kelly |

Welcome back to TSF.
A common problem when users do not stick with an analyst is re-infection. Have you noticed any new behavioural changes with the current PC? Have you run any Virus Scans? When transferring files, it's wise to only transfer Data.. for example pictures or documents that you have created. If you transfer EXE's, make sure you need them or know what they are. Otherwise, complete an online virus scan and post the results here. Download and install CleanUp!. Do NOT run it yet. Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
WARNING - CleanUp! will delete all files and folders contained within Temporary Directories. If you knowingly have items you would like to keep that are stored in these locations; Move Them Now!!! Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan ** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner

Thanks for the quick reply.
I ran CleanUp and then Panda Scan. Below is the Panda log. Doesn't look like much going on. I will say, that this is the same item we had trouble with back in December/January, but I thought we managed to find the Sent Items folder and delete it. Regardless, that folder is no longer in that location, at least not that I can see. I would be moving my .pst files to the new machine, so if something is infected in there I'm thinking it would be prudent to resolve it, right? Thanks for your help!
