Hi,
I am going to move you to the HJThis area. Please be patient, because they are very busy over there, so it may take up to 24 hours for a response, but when they respond, they will stay with you until things are fixed. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Hi ShAyLA,
Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out these instructions. Make sure to carry out all instructions in their entirety, and in the order outlined below. ************************************************ Before we begin, please move HiJackThis to it's own folder, like c:\HJT. When we're done 'cleaning' off your system, we're going to 'flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later. ************************************************ Download Ewido Security Suite
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. Next, please download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet. (Not Recommended for XP64). --------------------------- Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following: 1) Restart your computer 2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8. 3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear 4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter. Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading: * select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. *Also, make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. * Click OK. --------------------------- Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: MyWebSearch --------------------------- Run a scan in HijackThis. 'Check' each of the following if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL O2 - BHO: mwsBar BHO - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...p=ZCxdm238YYCA O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache...up1.0.0.15.cab Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis. --------------------------- Delete the following Folder if it still exists. C:\Program Files\ MyWebSearch --------------------------- *WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! or move them to a permanent location. Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: *Click "Options..." *Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!" *Put a check next to the following:
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. --------------------------- Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. Ewido is compatible with most AV and anti-spyware products, and the free version will continue to be useful as a second anti-malware scanner. --------------------------- Reboot into Normal Mode. --------------------------- Perform an online scan using Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan ** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner

Thank you! I hope this tells us something. My hard drive crashed in this thing once and I am afraid something is wrong with it again.

As for this...do I need to change anything back listed below?
Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading: * select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. *Also, make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. * Click OK |

Hi,
We'll set everything back once we're through cleaning your system. Download the attached shayla.zip file to your desktop. Double click on the zip folder, then double click on the shayla.reg file within. Click yes to allow it to merge into your registry. ------------------------------- Reboot into Safe Mode. ------------------------------- Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if it exists: FunWebProducts ------------------------------- Run a scan in HijackThis. 'Check' the following entry: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis. --------------------------- Delete the following Files and Folders if they still exist. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ GStartup.lnk c:\windows\ smdat32a.sys c:\program files\ FunWebProducts --------------------------- Reboot into Normal Mode. --------------------------- Please perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
How is your system behaving now? Last edited by Ried; 07-15-2006 at 09:25 PM. |

Hi ShAyLA,
Your logs are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links. Reset hidden/system files and folders Windows XP =============== Click Start. * Open My Computer. * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. * Select the View tab. * Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option. * Select the Hide file extensions for known types option. * Select the Hide protected operating system files option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK. Enable Windows Auto Update *Go to Start>Run - type wuaucpl.cpl *Tick on the checkbox - "Keep my computer up to date" *Under Settings, choose "Automatically download the updates, and install them on the schedule that I specify". Click on "OK". Create a new System Restore point Click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter * Select the System Restore Tab * Tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives" Click Apply * Then untick the same checkbox & click OK This will prevent any reinfection from previous restore points. In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles: HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? by Tony Klein THE ANTI-SPYWARE TUTORIAL MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER Understanding and Using Firewalls **Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them. More information and free downloads are available at the following links: Download SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items . Download Spyware Guard to catch and block spyware before it can execute. Download IE-SPYAD.EXE to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. This is a self-extracting .ZIP file, and save it to your desktop. Once downloaded, double-click on it to extract the files inside (default dir is C:\IE-SPYAD) From within the folder, double-click install.bat Select Option #2 - Install the new IE-SPYAD list, by typing 2 Then return to the main menu. Select option #4 - Add the old porn sites domain, by typing 4 Update all these programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Can you be more specific? Is the PC itself slow to startup, open programs...or just the internet and browsing? I need as much detail as possible.
It may be particularly slow right now since we've cleaned out the Prefetch and Temp/Temp Internet files. As those rebuild you will pick up some speed. ------------------------------- Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in or copy/paste sfc /scannow (there is a space between sfc and /) This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. If any problems are found, you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP install disc so have it handy. The following should appear to give an indication of how long the process is taking. ------------------------------- You mentioned this in your first post Quote:
*In the System window, go to Advanced tab. There, under the headline of Startup and Recovery, please click the Settings button. *Under the headline of System failure, please UNcheck the box that says Automatically restart. Now, instead of just rebooting, your pc will show a blue screen including information we will need in order to help you. Please, when it happens, either take a picture of it and upload it here or write down the message that it gives on your next reply. |

Hi ShAyLA,
I'm pleased to hear your system is performing better. ![]() The .zip folder I had you download and run, took care of the 'bad' registry entries reported in the Panda scan. |
