IE Homepage resetting to www.safetyup to date.com

Hi ramonjr,
Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Please ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T MISS A STEP & PERFORM EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER. Please also note that it is very important that you follow all of the steps below, and on each post I make. We'll get through this infection, but I'll need you to stay with me and make sure to keep checking if I've posted. Only when it's time will we consider this issue resolved. Thanks! ------------------- P2P P2P - I see you have P2P software ( Limewire) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information. ------------------- Downloads Please download Cleanup! or use this Alternate Link if the main link does not work and install it. You will use this later. Download Ewido Anti-Malware * Install Ewido Anti-Malware * When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck... o Install background guard o Install scan via context menu * Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. * On the left hand side of the main screen click update. * Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido. When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. ------------------- Ewido Please disable Ewido Security Suite's Guard, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
Windows Defender Please disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection, as it may hinder the removal of some entries.
Webroot SpySweeper Please disable Webroot SpySweeper, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean. To disable Webroot SpySweeper:
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. Click OK. Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears). Click > Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs (if they exist): MyWebSearch ------------------- Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any) O2 - BHO: Nothing - {f79fd28e-36ee-4989-aa61-9dd8e30a82fa} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp1C6C.tmp O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearc...p=ZUxdm090YYCA Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked. ------------------- Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist. C:\Program Files\MywebSearch ------------------- Run SmitfraudFix Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool. Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. You will be prompted : " Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter. The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question " Replace infected file?" by typing Y and hit Enter. A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode. The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: (C:rapport.txt) or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. ------------------- Clean out your Temporary Internet files Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: Click "Options..." Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!" Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Hi ramonjr
Thanks! ------------------- If you have problems deleting the files below, you may need to boot into safe mode to perform these two file deletions, do that by booting your system while pressing F8 then selecting safe mode. Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist. C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.15.inf C:\WINDOWS\system32\f3PSSavr.scr If you needed to boot into safe mode you can reboot into normal mode now. ------------------- Everything seems fine with the HijackThis log. Just a few files to remove (as noted above). Please let me know how your system is performing. Stay with me just a little longer. ![]() Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
Paste the Kaspersky Scan report here.

Here you go.

Just a little bit longer. We're almost there!
Hi ramonjr,
To get rid of that last file please follow the directions below. Click Start then Run Type regsvr32 /u occache.dll then press enter. Now, you should be able to see that last file so: Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist. C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.15.inf After the file is deleted please Click Start then Run Type regsvr32 occache.dll then press enter. ----------------------------- No, we will create a new system restore point and remove all of the old (infected ones) when we get to a point where your system is working and malware free. ----------------------------- How is your system behaving now? Any problems ? Please provide a new HijackThis Log in your next post.[/quote]
