Hi,
This started in IE6 by not being able to use the addy bar without errors (Dr Watson and some instances of Java, too)and shutdown, I can only surf using Favorites or thru a search engine. Then I found that I couldn't get to my C:\ no matter how I tried, not WinExplorer, not Control Panel, cannot even get into Safe Mode where I thought perhaps repairs might be made, no chance, the only option is to start normally as the arrow keys won't change the selection. AVG 8.5 trapped 3 infections of the Trojan (the first 2 as Generic15.ABOB then it mutated 3rd in timeline to Generic15.XXZ) into the vault, with zero warnings. This began as an Adobe Acrobat 7 update but Control Panel\Add/Remove shows it hasn't been accessed since Dec 2008. Then it hit SystemVolumes then Windows Options Cab. Searching for info about the Trojan took me to AVG where they were talking about false positives and knew they hadn't realized what they were dealing with yet. So I tried a scan at TrendMicro but could only get through their most basic scan then it wouldn't load after that. Kapersky did entire scan but it came up clean twice. I D\L DDS and provided the log. Malware Bytes found 6 Rogue.Ascentive and quarantined and deleted them. I finally got GMER to D\L and ran it, found hidden program in the Library in C:, but it wouldn't allow me to save a notepad to desktop so I had to clipboard it here or lose it in an unreachable location. No other scans or programs were run. I hope I have enough here to get a quick jump on this. I do have use of CDROM and valid XP software. By going through music software I have use of the burner even into C: so I backed up any doc's and pics I want to keep so I will also want to know how to safely scan the disc because I don't want this back. All else is expendable but would like to try to keep it if possible. I hope running Malware bytes didn't cause extra problems. Thanks for your help in advance, digit WinXP PRO SP3, IE 6 xpsp_3 all updates are current. _______________________________________________ DDS (Ver_09-10-26.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Owner at 20:51:13.17 on Wed 10/28/2009 Internet Explorer: 6.0.2900.5512 Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.2559.2098 [GMT -7:00] AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free *On-access scanning disabled* (Updated) {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF} AV: Anti-Virus - SBC Yahoo!
