Virus Keeps Giving Me A Black Screen
(I am posting this from a different computer than the one giving me problems.)
I got a virus (AVCare) Thursday night. I thought I had caught it using SuperAntiSpyware; however, when I rebooted, I kept getting error message about Run32dll, and I was unable to start any spyware/malware/virus removal programs (they would quickly shut down after I started them, or I'd get an error message during installation). Windows Explorer kept crashing and restarting. I was able to reboot and get to my desktop, but I kept getting the Explorer errors and restarts. During one of my many random reboots, I found myself staring at a black screen after booting up. I could see the cursor, and I could get the "sticky keys" window to pop up, but I couldn't use CTRL+ALT+DEL or anything like that. Since then, I've been unable to boot to anything BUT the black screen in normal mode. I've tried normal startups, all forms of Safe Mode, and Last Known Good Configuration, but they all immediately give me a black screen on startup, though. I finally tried System Restore; the earliest point I could restore to was roughly the time the virus was introduced into the system, though. With a constant black screen, I felt like I had no choice, so I did it. I was able to restart in normal mode without the black screen. However, Windows Explorer still crashed every few seconds. I am unable to access any type of spyware/virus protection program, and I cannot use HiJack This to post a log. Any antivirus-type program I try to run "disappears" 2-3 seconds after it starts a scan. Sophos Anti-Rootkit is the only scanner that did not disappear. Unfortunately, it did not find any problem files, and it did not recommend for me to delete anything. I restarted when it finished, and I'm now back at the dreaded black screen. Am I completely screwed? I feel helpless since I can't run any anti-virus scans (or they don't find anything), and I have absolutely no clue what to do. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: I should add that when I used System Restore and did not get the black screen, I was never able to see my toolbar, get to the Start Menu, etc. I can run stuff through Task Manager, but since Explorer immediately restarts all the time, I'm never able to use my computer like normal, things run slower, browsers tend to freeze randomly, I can't uninstall programs (explorer.exe insta-crashes every time I click Uninstall Programs in the Control Panel), and Google refuses to work properly (ex. early in this process, I tried to search for "delete AVCare" on Google, and it would not complete the search).
