I've been having problems with not being able to download anything on my comp. I'm not sure if this is a virus or general issue, but I want to know for sure. Since I can't download anything including Antivirusses, can some please help me?

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

Can someone please help me asap so I can run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware? You don't know how bad I need that scan, because last time I used it it found every infection on my comp. I'm really serious and impatient now.

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

what happens when you try and download?

Do you get any error messages?

have you tried safe mode with networking?

have you tried downloading to another computer and transferring via USB...

If that works...we need diagnostic logs to be able to see what is infecting your computer, then we will know which tool is the best tool to clean it.

If you can transfer via USB... follow the steps outlined here

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for taking your time to read this and reply. To answer your question, when I download something and it goes into the list, it says its been blocked by my security settings. I originally thought this was because there were multiple admin accounts, but same thing happened after I had made the main one the only admin, where I should I be able to download stuff without problem. Now I would do a Mcafee scan just to be sure, but It never finds anything. Plus I don't know if I'm infected or not.

I'm sorry if this a dumb question but what does safe mode with networking have to offer me?

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

safe mode with networking offers internet access in safe mode:

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
  • this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode with networking
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • go into your usual account

just start tapping repeatedly (not too fast) as you boot up...the menu screen should appear.

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

have you been able to download them to your desktop?

If when you click on the exe - nothing happens, then please do this:

Download Inherit and save it to your desk top
Drag each of the exe files that you are unable to run into Inherit.exe (must be the exe - not the shortcut)
Then wait for it to say "OK"

alternately, try renaming the exe to a dot.com extension, or rename to explorer.exe and it should run

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

Uh I can wait for that right now. Im experiencing a whole new problem, as soon safe mode/networking logged on with me, Mcafee is screaming away because most of it's virus scanning is disabled. Is this normal?

Ok now I'm worried as hell because mcafee said I could not restore any of my protection because of an error.

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

I think you need to download to a USB and transfer over to the infected computer.

If you can get into task manager (ctrl + alt + del) go to the processes tab and list out all the running processes for me.

The infection has disabled McAfee.

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

Whoa, this only happened in safe mode. Then when I went back to normal mode, MS Antivirus, known to all as both a clone of Winfixer and SpySheriff. Mcafee is fine now. But I want to figure out how to download stuff without being in safemode.

Re: Can't download anything at all. >:(

You probably wont be able to, the infection is preventing it.

we need to get ComboFic run on your system.

It will run from a USB

Please do the following:

note rename it before saving it to another computer and transferring to the USB

run it in safemode if you can't get McAfee shut down:

Download Combofix from either of the links below. You must rename it to combafix.exe before saving it.
Save it to your desktop. Change the save as file type to "All Files"

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, delete it, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**
  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

Link 1
Link 2

-----------------------------------------------------------
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
  • NOTE: If ComboFix asks to install the Recovery Console, please ALLOW it to do so.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
  • Double click on the renamed ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt so we can continue cleaning the system.

-----------------------------------------------------------
