Re: problem with infections, rootkits

The network icon is present on my task bar. Attempting to connect to the wireless network gives the balloon "unable to connect to preferred wireless network". As for the router and modem, I have a separate computer running off the wireless signal without any problems..

Re: problem with infections, rootkits

Try running the wireless network setup wizard in control panel (classic view) to reset your configuration.

(make sure you have all your connection details and keys - SSID of your wireless AP, and the WEP/WPA key (if you have one)

Re: problem with infections, rootkits

I managed to fix the issue by rolling back my wireless driver to a previous install. Please advise me on what I should do to install the windows updates without having this happen again.

Re: problem with infections, rootkits

Hi,

I would like to get a look at a fresh DDS and Attach.txt to make certain all the malware is gone, then we need to clean up the tools I used, properly.

As for preventing it with installing the updates, don't install anything that intends to update any drivers. But once you are clean, I would advise posting a new topic in our OS/Hardware forum, let the expert techs there step you through it so it doesn't happen again.
