Comp Not Starting - oscSock version 1.1 beta
Hello guys. My friend has the computer virus or trojan (which ever is the correct name) entitled "oscSock version 1.1 beta". I am making this thread for him in an attempt to help him because he cannot get onto his computer. From what he tells me, his computer will start up, and when he clicks on his windows xp account, everything will load up and then within a few seconds the computer will shutdown. Because of this he cannot do anything such as go online, or try to download a anti-spyware program to get rid of it.
His aim profile also changed to "oscSock version 1.1 beta" and every once in awhile it will log onto his account and send links to all his friends (including me) which is obviously an attempt to distribute the virus. I am not falling for this pathetic attempt, so I do not open it, though I'm sure a few of his friends have fallen for it... feel sorry for em... Anyhow, I would really appreciate it if you can give me some help to get his computer running again without instantly shutting down the second he logs onto his windows account. He tryed running in safe mode, but he tells me the same thing occurs, and the comp shuts down, is there any other advice you can give me to get the computer running? His operating system is Windows XP. By the way, he claims the virus changed his AIM accnt password, he also plays WoW, do you think it has his WoW accnt password as well, should I attempt to change that for him, or is there any other passwords I should try and change for him? All in all, if his WoW accnt got screwed it would probably be for the best anyway, that game just ruins you IMO. Thanks for any help, eager to give him some help.
