Malware/virus or not?
Hi,
I am not sure if this is a virus/malware or if it is one of my installed softwares that is causing the wierd behavious. The problem: Certain games, programs would install others would not start. Let me qualify that, the loading screen would come up and then it nothing would happen. No error is thrown and even in Task Manager the program does not show 'Not Responding'. On checking the process, it shows that for the program in question the CPU usage is zero and the Memory is stagnant. This happens for installers as well. I then retried the various games and programs again and noticed that when they start there is a CPU usage and Memory does increase but as I mentioned before just stops. The wierd part is if I start these programs as soon as I start my computer it loads/works fine. If I wait for about 5 minutes after a windows boot up, the above mentioned problem persists. Now I thought it is process that is being triggerd by msconfig, but there are only 4 processes there and they all seem fine. My antivirus (comodo internet security) or anit-malware (ad-aware) software have not picked up anything. However I got the feeling it could be these 2 software itself are causing a problem as it seems to be a script blocking issue. I restarted the computer disabling these software through msconfig so would not start (disconnected from the net), no luck. Using the popular tools: I first tried to use hijackthis. But it would not finish it's scan, it would get stuck at 'O4 - Registry and Start Menu Autorun'. Again if I ran it quickly after a boot up it would complete. It also works when windows is in safe mode. Creating the logs from tools mentioned: I tried running dds.scr but it would just hang similar to above scenario. Again stagnant in memory usage in the processes list. So I don't have a log. I then tried the root kit finder, that actually ran so I am attaching that log. From my understanding no issues in that log. I also tried RSIT as one of the other threads said this works better with Vista. But when i was installing this, same issue, just stuck. Oh I am running a bit 32 bit Vista OS. Thought I get the feeling something is blocking scripts, I am clueless at what that something is. Any help would be appreciated. |
