Hello all
I'm new (and here for help). Apologies to start things with a new thread but I couldn't find anything on this problem: I have a sealed unit Packard Bell Laptopwith XP installed, no windows cd or boot disks come with the machine. I was running Avant browser and Emule with Kerio Firewall. I started to have problems with the memory consumption and found that I had self diallers, Kerio kept asking my permission to allow dial outs. I deleted the files that Kerio reported as wanting to dial out and refused permission. The machine started running lots of svchost processes and also spoolsv (I think I've typed that correctly) and I looked these up online and deleted them in windows/system32 as advised. They replaced themselves very quickly. I can't find the program that is replacing them. I downloaded a free virus scan, escan I think and ran it. It found a few trojan viruses and deleted them. When I reboot now I get three error messages; the first says that the machine cannot find msxmidi.exe, the second that I should remove the same file from my registry and the third that windows cannot run wnim.dll If I click on ok and ignore the message, for lack of another option, I get to desktop but there are some strange differences; the icon bar is grey not blue, and all the windows are squarer. Its as if the windows is in a different style. I can't change windows styles I've tried. None of the programs will run, they complain either of a runtime error - no memory available, or just crach immediately. The task manager doesn't report that any of the processes are taking up a lot of memory. I was going to reset my machine (it has a restore to factory settings option) but I want to copy all of my stuff over to cd first. The cd burning program won't run. The only way for me to get online to type this was to use a Linux self contained boot cdm which is running fine I must add. Hopefully I can use this to burn stuff to cd but I was hoping that replacing the files wnim.dll, msxmidi.exe and svchost.exe might sort the problems out. Apologies for the diatribe, please can someone advise me Many thanks in advance Matt |

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.
1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.
