EEK! Laptop Problems

Hello,
I have previously posted a thread earlier today, but I didn't explain the problem very well. The problem exists, not on the computer I am using to type this message, but on a seperate laptop, that is so badly infected that it keeps re-booting for no reason, after a few minutes. I therefore cannot download anything from the internet etc, or very much really.

Would it be possible to boot the laptop into a safe mode and attempt things ? I am not surehow to get safe mode however. I think i probably have to hit a certain key on firing the laptop up ???

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,
Dave.

Re: Laptop Problems

Hello leicster25,

As is explained in our pre-posting topic, this section of the forum is extremely swamped and we do volunteer our time.

Quote:
Please be considerate of the fact that the people helping you are all volunteers, and in many cases usually have a job, and a limited amount of time to help, and therefore can only do so much. Also please note that there are many more people in need of assistance than there are trained staff members who may assist. Patience for this free assistance is required. If there is an immediate need, please take the machine to a local technician.
In the past week, you could have tried to google your particular model of laptop to try to find out how to enter Safe Mode. There's a lot of information out there.

You've not given us much to work with here. What version of Windows is this and what brand laptop?

The version of laptop is Acer and it is running windows XP. I have no idea if entering safe mode would be beneficial to me so i really am stumped as to what to do.

Re: Laptop Problems

Well, you won't know if you don't try and it certainly won't hurt anything.

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

If the computer restarts even in Safe Mode, repeat the above procedure and select Last known good configuration.

If it still restarts, repeat initial procedure and select Disable Auto Restart and let it try to boot into Windows. Instead of restarting, you should see a blue screen and an error message. Write down the exact error message and report it here.
