Are .jason files save from Virut.n infection?

Hi
I had a Virut.n(and its assorted variants) infection a week ago and because of that i had windows7 installed on a new hdd. but i made a backup of some .txt .pdf files from the old machine. I also made a backup of my firefox bookmarks (in .json format) (i have them backed up on a cd)

is it ok for me to put them in this computer? from what i was able to google..it seems that bookmark backup file formats might be able to be infected by these viruses.

i really need those bookmarks...

is it safe for me to put them in this new hdd? or if not is there any way i can check for sure that they are not infected?

thanks!

ps: i opened a thread on my infection a week or so back but as my laptop and pc both got infected and crashed i was not able to reply to that thread ..but later it got closed according tot he 3 day reply rule of this forum. sorry for any inconvenience i might have caused and also thanks to the person who replied to that thread.

Re: Are .jason files save from Virut.n infection?

Hello star07,

Personally, I wouldn't chance it. Knowing how many bookmarks I have, as much as I'd hate to have to do itm I'd bit the bullet and re-bookmark each and every one of the sites.

Did you back those up to a CD? If so, you can scan that CD with Kaspersky's online scanner before you attempt to put them back on your system.
