Question Some sort of new virus or something?

Hi.

This week I started having weird problem with one of my computers... worked whole day everything was fine then when I pressed shut down screen turned black and could see only mouse... well I thought **** happens and pressed restart now when I turn on pc windows loads to the point where I can see mouse but no desktop with black background ctrl+alt+del doesn't work ether :( and the same goes for safe mode. I did complete reinstall of windows but two days later same problem... same crap happened to 2 pc's at work and two of my friends having the same problem! every pc had windows xp installed with sp2 or sp3 and was using avg 8.5 antivirus. For fact I know that 2 pc's had windows updates turned off. Is someone having same problems or know something about this? fail on behalf of avg updates or something?

thanks in advance. any info would be helpful
