Hello jimhayden,

Without logs, we're working blindly here. See if you can download the needed tools to a usb stick, then transfer them to this infected machine to run the tools.

Re: I would like help with Packed.Hidden

Thanks for replying Ried. Nice to know I can come here in the future, but I have decided to wipe this HD and re-install the OS.
Sure learned too much about malware though
Jim

Re: I would like help with Packed.Hidden

Hi Jim,

There is no shame in reformatting and reinstalling. While it is an incredible pain and time consuming, often times it's the best, and safest solution going forward.

Now that you have a fresh install, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:

WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
  • Green to go
  • Yellow for caution
  • Red to stop
WOT has an addon available for both Firefox and IE.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

- Scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer

- Update, and scan with your onboard Anti Malware and Anti Virus programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

In light of your recent issues, have a look at these well-written articles:

Take care.
