My home computer is showing the blue screen of death. I cannot log into the computer in safe mode or any other mode. A blue screen appears that says the following:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the mfg. for driver updates. Tru changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical Information: *** STOP: 0x0000007E (0x80000003, 0x805C370C,0xF7A352B4, 0xF7A34FB0) I cannot access any logs etc. Please let me know what I can do to get this fixed or if any other info is needed. As I said, I cannot start computer in Safe Mode or access Windows at all. System is XP The last time I was on the internet I recall my virus protection saying that possibly a BIOS was detected and needed removed. I removed it and this is when the problems started. Coincidence?? |

Re: Blue Screen of death
Hello Jason92.
Have you tried to boot into Last known good configuration? Do you have the Windows install disc? |

Re: Blue Screen of death
Ried,
Thanks for the response. I've tried to re-boot in Last known good config. but I still get the blue screen. I also don't have the install disc. Any ideas? My wife has her portfolio for school on this thing and is going to need some info off of it in the near future. Are we in trouble?? |

Re: Blue Screen of death
Hi Jason92, yes, you're in some trouble here but let's see if we can at least save your wife's portfolio.
Please visit the website to download the bootcd > http://www.hirensbootcd.net/details/10.0.html (this is a large download, and you'll need a fresh CD to write to ) Download this tool to a flash drive. ======================================== After you've created the boot CD, insert it in the CDROM/DVD drive and ensure your BIOS is set to boot from CDROM drive first. Once it loads, start Mini Windows XP You can navigate around just as if you were in Windows. The first thing I would do is transfer all important files to a removable drive. After you've done that, run the tool you saved to your flash drive and post the report it generates. It should only take about 5 minutes to complete. |

Can you tell me how to ensure that BIOS is set to boot? I have a feeling that this entire problem is BIOS related. Many thanks!! |

Re: Blue Screen of death
Ok - so I have a Dell. I F2 and select boot sequence. I have selected Onboard or USB CD - ROM drive as number 1. I exit out of that menu and now I get a message that says: No boot device available - Strike F1 to reboot, F2 for setup utility.
Am I doing something wrong?? |

Re: Blue Screen of death
I believe on Dell machines you have an option to run a disk diagnostic.
Boot the computer and just before it tries to boot from a disk, press Ctrl+Alt+ the letter D. Post back what it says. |

Re: Blue Screen of death
Ried - I tried to do the Alt Control Del D, but all it did was keep re-booting the computer. I F12 and have been running a "Test for Cannot Boot the OS" and it is about 90% done. I will post the results from that. Is there anything else I can do in the mean time?
Thanks! |

Re: Blue Screen of death
Don't do the Ctrl Alt Del that is the combination to bring up Task Manager or if done in succession, will reboot the machine.
It is my understanding that you press the Ctrl Alt D (meaning, the letter D on the keyboard, not the DEL key) Try that again when teh test is completed. |

Re: Blue Screen of death
I did the Ctrl Alt D and it performed a Hard Drive Diagnostic
Drive 0 : Samsung SP2504C - Pass Drive 1 : No Device Drive 2 : Samsung SP2504C - Pass Drive 3 : No Device Drive 4 : HL-DT-STDVD+-RW GSA-H21N - Diagnostic Not Supported Drive 5 : No Device Test Complete, Press <ENTER> to reboot I have a feeling this isn't what you are looking for?? |

Re: Blue Screen of death
That's exactly what I'm looking for.
![]() Put the boot CD you created, into the DVD drive. See if you can move the DVD drive up the list of boot order in the BIOS. If it's not listed separately in the BIOS, then make the hard disk drive the last in line to boot. Now boot system. |

Re: Blue Screen of death
Keep changing the order until you get it to boot. If it never boots from that dvd drive, it's possible the boot cd isn't quite right. Toss that boot disc aside, create a new one from the site I gave you earlier, and try again. If you still can't get it, then I would suggest slaving the hard drive to another computer so you can get the needed documents off that drive. After you do that, use the Dell recovery discs to reinstall Windows.
I need to go offline for a couple hours. I'll respond to any further posts as soon as I can. |
