Hello,

Starting just recently, there are some programs that won't work. By that I mean that I double click on Internet Explorer or Pro Tools, and the hourglass appears for a few seconds, and then nothing happens. I am using Firefox because IE is not working.

In addition, other oddities have shown up. When I go to the Shut Down menu, there is a Windows update that requires me to Turn Off the computer to install the update. However, every time I do it, it installs but the Shut Down menu continues to say that I need to turn off the computer to install the update.

I ran Avast's antivirus, and a few problems showed up in this folder:

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{22B3A706-00B7-45F7-8323-FA7E863155D7}\RP452\

I wasn't able to move it to the "chest" while in Windows, but I was able to move the files when I ran Avast's boot scan before windows was opened. However, the problem with not being able to load Pro Tools or IE remains. I have also used Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware.

I use the following:

Windows XP Professional - Service Pack 3
Dell Dimension 8400

Attach and ark.txt are attached.

Here's the DDS log:

Edit: I am now able to use IE. When I double clicked on Pro Tools, the hourglass would appear and then disappear and nothing would happen. After that, IE wouldn't load and I wasn't able to watch any videos on WMP. However, I was able to go into the Task Manager, Processes tab, and close the session for Pro Tools. After that, IE and everything else seems to be working...but Pro Tools is still not loading.

Re: Stuff won't load...possibly infected

OK, I got Pro Tools to work by using my free upgrade to 8.0. Another problem with 8.0 occurred, but I found out that uninstalling IE8 fixed it. So I guess my computer is good for now.
