Internet won't open (in the right forum this time.)

Ok, I'm sure when you guys saw that old standard of a thread topic you guys's first thought was "oh boy, here we go again." But I dunno, I feel like a got a particularly perplexing problem. I'll give the basic story and fill you in on the grittier details if necessary.

I'm running XP Home Edition, it pretty much looks like Windows 2000. The Internet Explorer I have is version 6. So a few days ago I get this virus. I run my Anti-Virus and it quarantines some stuff it classifies as Adware. Whenever I try to delete said nasties it says I can't for various reasons.

I try to bring up Mozilla. Nothing happens. I try to bring up IE and it opens for a split second and closes again, I'm sure you guys have heard of this before. So I figure I'd run a few more virus-getters for a second opinion. From another computer I network over a few installs, and they also, for the most part, refuse to open (I did the same thing with re-installing Mozilla, it would install, but it still wouldn't open.)

I've been plundering various forums and trying various fixes to no avail. The longer I'm at this the more infuriating it gets. So I'd figure I'd drop my own message here to see if you guys can suggest me any fixes I haven't already tried.

I'd greatly appreciate your time and my head would greatly appreciate some time without it being scratched,
