Icons / Toolbar Disappeared

My sons computer has stopped working. One morning he turned it on and all that came up was the wallpaper but no icons and no toolbar at the bottom. After searching on my laptop I tried to use the task manager (ctrl, Alt, Delete). This appeared and I was able to get into the computer by doing a run for 'c:'. This got me into all the program files etc... but whenever you went into my computer no files came up only a searchlight. Also the wireless connection totally disappeared and if you tried to right click on network connections the whole system just froze. I tried to do a system restore from this point and while it let me click on the option nothing happened. I then went into safe mode and found a wireless connection and was able to do a system restore. However after the system restore the problem was still there. I am now completely at a loss as for what to do next.

Your help would be appreciated. The requested reports are attached. However I think my son might have two anti-virus products running, if so please advise how I take one off. Thanks.
