Trying to fix my laptop - help appreciated
I have two laptops that I am currently trying to fix (my main one and a spare one). I'm trying to fix the spare one first because it seems less seriously infected. It's running Windows XP, and appeared to have a couple of minor bugs, so I reinstalled Windows from the recovery partition and then installed and ran Norton Antivirus, Spyware Doctor, and CCleaner (I also ran these in safe mode). There don't seem to be any infections other than the occasional cookie, but the laptop seems to be running slower than ever! In particular, IE runs veeery slooowly and then suddenly speeds up, then slows down again, and it frequently hangs when I try to access Gmail. I ran Hijack This and used an online service to check the results, but nothing problematic appeared. I am unsure whether the laptop has a virus or not, or what I should do next. If anyone can advise me I'd really appreciate it.
